When to harvest?
    #11739303 - 12/29/09 07:19 PM (15 years, 22 days ago)

I've only grown successfully once, and I was granted just one flush and a half before abortion. I won't be growing again for a couple of weeks; when I do I'm interested to know how best to harvest the mushrooms?

I've heard conflicting reports telling me I should do it

a) just before the caps open
b) just after the caps open

and some people tell me to twist them out (whenever I do this I seem to damage the myclieum too much), some people tell me to cut them with a blade. Some people tell me letting their spores drop damages the likelihood of subsequent flushes, and some tell me it helps.

Any trusted cultivators about that can provide a bit of a newbie with a slice of clarification?

If you want potency harvest right as or before the veil rips, if you want weight harvest afterwards but perferably no longer after your caps flatten out, who ever told you to cut them off is stupid, you twist them off to guarantee you get everything off, leaving little chunks of mushrooms on your substrate lets them rot, which is not good, i have two mono buckets running on there 6th and 7th flushes and they are pure black/purplish(spores).

That's it. Pick before the caps open for the prettiest ones, but it sure doesn't make a bit of difference.

A little too early but just how I enjoy them.
Just enjoy them when you are ready :tripping::thumbup:

I don't like how they turn black on top when they sporulate. I always pick before the mess.
