Mushroom Growing Kit

hello all.. I am new to the mushroom game but i have been here for about 4 days just reading.. I started reading cuss I was going to buy one of those "KITS" but after reading the FAQ i see that those kits are a big RIP OFF! $100.00 for something maybe that i can do with $25-$50.. I just wanted to say thanks and wanted to know if by me growing my own mushrooms can they still be poisonus?

if you buy from a reputable spore dealer you wont have to worry at all about poisonous mushrooms. I would stick with pscilocybe mushrooms for your first try , because they are easy and the most common. but if you get contaminated shrooms as you grow they could be harmful, but thats all you have to worry about.

I was thinking of starting with pscilocybe.. I was going to go with PF for my spores. I was thinking Hawaian since they said that they were pretty fast in maturiting. THanks for your input and i hope to gain alot of tricks and tips from you peeps..

Who knows? They could be selling you spores for DEATH CAPS! jk Order from someone reputable and you'll be fine. Also, pretty much anyone can tell the difference between Psilocybe cubensis and a toxic species. There are not too many look-alikes for P. cubensis.

well about the poisonous the chances are almost slim to none. if u plant tomato seeds how often does lettuce popup? also i think the deadly ones might have diff fruiting characteristics and might not even fruit on pf susbtrate.

You should be fine dude.  I recommend buying the Ecuadorian strain for a first grow.  The only thing that could make any cubensis toxic would be a contaminant, which you can read all about here at the forums.  Good luck!  :grin:
