    #11738666 - 12/29/09 07:32 PM (11 years, 4 months ago)

It's :awesome:  really good workout and useful self-defense tool.  Many blows can break bones or kill.... PEACE!

Yep, full contact.

I went down to the local gym for a bit of fun when I was ~12 and found myself in a club that was fighters only (no fitness), got smashed to shit within 30 minutes of turning up and the rest is history.

Got knocked out in my 3rd week :vaped:

After starting it Ive come to conclude 2 things, it is truly a very complex art, and it is probably the most violent martial art Ive witnessed in full contact.  ( I saw some full contact matches in Thailand, Pattaya Beach)

Go box, it's all useful.

Regardless of the style, the strength and conditioning is often very similar and that's the biggest gain from training as a fighter.

I, too, saw Ong-bok and wanted to learn Thai kick-boxing.

I don't know what that is.  I went to Pattaya beach thailand when I was in the navy, got stoned and sat right in a bar drinking beer while they had matches.

I went to a couple sessions with my brother. The trainer, who used to go to thailand and fight, whipped my ass a few times and I was done. I dont like not being able to walk due to trauma of the legs by this guys shins. It was like being hit by rebar, it sucked. Guess im just not a fighter.

The classes I am going to now are fitness no contact, with the trainer teaching how to calcify the shins on the heavy bag for later contact work, which in this gym is done with full protective gear anyway.  Then when you get proficient, you can go into competitive with contact.

That's what I was originally looking for when I turned up.

What I got though was ~25 really mean looking blokes in a cramped room with 2 rings covered in blood, a bunch of worn out bags, lots of ghetto shit like monster truck tyres, sandbags and sledgehammers... and it fucking STUNK like a mixture of dencorub and sweaty males.

Head coach gave you a 30 minute warmup/stretch and a bit of a chat then BAM, first session you were placed in the ring with their most experience fighter at your size.

Just started boxing training yesterday!  I'm now sore in about every muscle and looking forward to coming back tomorrow.  :box:
