Fruiting Costa on Straight Straw
    #11737147 - 12/29/09 12:35 PM (15 years, 22 days ago)

I made up some mono's and dubtubs of costa rica. Spawned some popcorn and to straight straw.

The colonization rate was pretty fabulous, it was at 100% in like 4-5 days.

I was gonna let it sit a week, but then some good sized pins popped up at about day 7, so I went ahead and put it in fruiting conditions.

The problem is that the pinset is poor. Pins keep appearing as time goes on. Rather than flushes, I'm getting a steady stream of fruit.

I'm wondering if it's because I didn't wait longer, or if it's just because I'm fruiting off straight straw.

I got a great flush on straw with PE, but I thought maybe Costa isn't as good for straw. The fruits are hefty and gorgeous. Can't complain about that. I just wish the pinset were more even. Should I have cased them perhaps?

Will post pics later.

I've never used straw but the amount of moisture in your sub has an impact on the size of your shrooms. Are you sure it was at field capacity? Did you make sure to make the sub as flat and level as possible?
