Orissa's growing sideways???

I checked on my Orissa casing yesterday and theyre pinning everywhere but alot of the pins are actually lying flat down on the casing material.
Has anyone else encountered this problem before?

one idea: is your light to the side so that they are growing sideways toward it?
on the other hand, my last casing flush had some that just couldn't seem to support their own weight and they grew sideways-ish.

It's definately not because of the light because I turn my terrarium round every couple of days or so and weight couldn't be a factor either as none of them are even half an inch tall yet..

The fact that you feel the need to turn your terrarium tells me that you have light coming in from the side(s), hence the problem. Block the light from all directions except the top.

pins will sprout towards a light source, turning the terrerium really won't make a difference once your pins sprout towards a light source. Used to happen to me all the time.

My terrarium is a HUGE transparent plastic box with a transparent snap on lid. Do you guys suggest that I should use masking tape or something and tape up the sides so only the light passes through the lid?

Put a florescent light in the terranium. The light will be stronger, and will give it a way to grow.

If light is such a problem coming in from the sides then why do people use aquariums? I've seen pics of John Allen (mjshroomer) using aquariums successfully and he's a reputed ethnomycologist..

it's not the terrerium that's the problem, it's when people just stick it their closet against a wall or something of that nature where a light source can only penetrate from certain angles. I'm sure Mr. Allen knows better then this.

i dont think light is such a problem just every little helps and as it seems to be the mechanisum to help them stand up.Just means brighter above than side.As youll prob notice most aquariums have strip lights in the lids. You can do this or just sit a lamp on top.
