it can float somewhat but usually it is indeed an indicator if it is floating on the surface that it is most likely bacteria or another contam my condolences

if you ever try to dunk a fully colonized substrate you will find that it can float very well.
in fact, it would probably make a great boat

Myc does not float normally. It is most likely a contam. Substrates that float only float because the sub has gas pockets encapsulated in it. Unless you have shaken it or it somehow has small bubbles of air like galadar said or referenced by this thread then it is most likely contaminated. Good lc's are ideally sunk at the bottom or very close to the bottom.

Shoot a test jar if you want proof, but don't bother with more than one.

for reference here are some LC that fruited

although i don't think a LC should float normally..
i still think a active substrate boat is something we really need to make in the name of science.
imagine if the airpockets didnt fill with water and it just floated around a lake and eventually fruited.
an oasis of brain fuckery floating around a pond/lake etc would be great.

Well, I still say shoot a test jar. Or leave it alone and unshaken a few days- Ps. cubensis isn't the only fungus that can sporulate on LC.
