rye seeds doing nothing
    #11731323 - 12/28/09 12:17 PM (15 years, 23 days ago)

So I hate posting back to back, cause it feels like I'm doing everything wrong. But, I was looking at my rye jars that were inoculated over a week ago, and they have 0 growth so far.  All I see is the grains just looking wet.  I shook one of them, and it left a smear of what looks like brown slim, I'm assuming its starch.  Should I throw them out? Are they good still?  Were they too wet?

My first batch of jars did not have this problem and they started to grow in a few days.

Thanks

My latest rye bag took 10 days till I saw any growth, and then another 10 till they were ready to crumble. Patience is key.

brown slime sounds like you have bacterial problems. nothing will grow or germinate once bacteria gets a strong foothold.

Brown could also be due to rye seeds that were not rinsed well before sterilization. As the moisture levels change, the brown dust might resemble "slime".

Thank you but I'm afraid it may be too late.
