I recently took a break from the scene for a short while and now I am back for more!
My last grow (ccv/rye) turned out not so good. Two tubs lost too cobweb. I dont understand where it comes from though?
Others have stated that cobweb can not germinate with competeing fungi and that it has too be introduced too your substrate in order for it too take a foot hold.
Can anyone exlbain how cobweb works, comes from... anything about it at all would be appreciated.
Thanks

It comes when you give the spores the proper environment they need to germinate and grow.

Cobweb is easily spread through a growing area, on clothes, flies, mites, hands, tools etc.
Because the mycelium is so wispy it is often spread by air movement.
Because cobweb is a soil dwelling organism it is easy to find it in compost and other materials in contact with soil.
It likes warm air and high humidity, so FAE is part of the process to reduce the occurrence.
Fungicides can be used but are generally not available to smaller growers. However bleach and cleaning out possible sources of infection are so a rigid regime of washing the grow rooms and other area with a 10% bleach solution on a weekly basis will reduce the amount of disease in chronic infections.
Formalin (very toxic use with extreme caution) can be used at 2% solution in the casing layer. Mostly formalin is no longer used but in extreme cases could be considered.
