I've been to CERN. It's a very cool place, very open. Lots of languages spoken there (international community), lots of technology and science research going on aside from the LHC, too. I went last summer and got to see the actual underground collider (ATLAS, I believe the part was called that I saw), because it was all being repaired and thus people could go down there without freezing/being bombarded with radiation/whatever reason it is that people can't be around when the experiments are running. They were very adamant that it won't destroy the world and that they don't produce significant amounts of antimatter. Also they don't wear lab coats in real life or use those eye security readers like they did in Angels and Demons.

My physics professor worked on the lhc. He had some cool stuff to say about it.
Did you know that they have to compensate for the moons gravity moving the plates of the earth kinda like tides.

If anyone really thinks that a two-particle collision will produce some sucking vortex and instantly annihilate the earth then they are so uneducated that they ought to take science lessons from a creationist. The only black hole they should be worried about is the one between their ears.
Maybe that's a little harsh but I am getting really fucking tired of the "I don't know the first thing about science but I'm convinced that actual scientists are so ignorant they will kill us all" shtick. Scientists do not walk up to construction workers and tell them they're hammering wrong. (Even though a physicist might be able to prove the point.) Don't know why nobody respects intellect anymore.

primodordial black holes occur on the reg. they dont do shit.
do u really think if there was a chance that they would destroy the world that the scientists would be like "ya fuck it, lets do it"

Scientists once speculated that a nuclear bomb could burn off the entire atmosphere...

Contrary to popular belief no actual scientists thought that "all the oxygen would catch fire" but there was a concern about a nitrogen fusion reaction. This was disproven before the Trinity test. They ran the numbers. It's what scientists do.
Similarly, if you think a two-proton black hole will kill you, then you'd better watch out for all that air bouncing off you, because every one of those molecules is much much heavier and might suck you in!
