I have some pf cakes that are fully colonized and I want to case a few just to get some experience casing because I plan on moving to wbs real soon.
If I use peat moss, verm and oyster shells, do I need to use lime still? I've been searching for hours and I found a post where someone said to use. 3 cups peat moss: 3 cups verm : 1 cup oyster shell
Does that seem right? I want to do some single cake casings to practice with just to get the feel of it and understanding.

What you said will work, but if I were you I would spawn to coco coir. It's easy to find and easy to use
Good luck with whatever you decide. I think the cold weather is fucking up my jars, Im too cheap to run the heat all the time

I wanted to use coir but I read its only good as a substrate not a casing. I actually had a hard time finding my peat moss but I have it now.

right, if you spawn to coir you dont need to case it
you should post some pictures in this thread once you get all finished up
I am in the process of trying my first monotub, so I am practicing spawning to substrate

I wish I could post pics but I'm using a android phone... my comp is busted.
I'm gonna give the peat moss a shot, I just don't wanna fuck up, I've put so much into reading and time to get this far.

Just remember to pasteurize your casing layer and you'll be fine. It's purpose is to hold moisture so as long as its clean you will be good to go

I'm debating between using a microwave or a PC and myco bags. I have both...

In the past I have used casing layers from the microwave and they always worked fine for the first flush, but I sometimes got trich during later flushes. I was using Miracle Grow: Moisture Control
I would recommend using your PC since you have it available

I found my peat moss at lowes today, no one else had it. I was suprised to see that lowes had verm too! That was a bonus.

You don't need lime. Check out my noob TEK.

I can get coco coir but I have a huge bag of peat moss now. Ill use coir some day too. So I guess coir vs. Peat is just like WBS vs. Rye. Everyone swears by one or the other
