oh no doubt =D My only problem with leaners if I had them lean over some aborts I failed to notice once, and they rotted and contaminated the box =( So I'm semi-anal about straighties now =D best trip i've ever had was off PE in a mono that were laying down and fat bottomed and just....fucked up looking shrooms.

I got a hygrometer/thermometer today and stuck it into my empty makeshift incubation chamber. The temperature read is 83 F, this is the optimal temperature for quick colonization?
When I was at the store getting the hygrometer, I noticed they were having a blow out on humidifiers as well (I will have to get one soon..) This one seemed the most useful since it's a ultrasonic cool mist humidifier for 70$. The mist sprays out of the top so I was going to attach a hose somehow and have that go directly into the FC. Will this humidifier work for the setup I'm trying to make?
http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=16770124
Thanks to all for the help so far.

Ultra sonic BAD cool mist..GOOOOD.
Actually they're both decent; but an ultrasonic NEEDS a timer that can do like 1-3 min on periods, as it will over saturate in a matter of minutes =/ where a cool mist is pretty much fillerup and run 24/7.
Also, because you can't keep an ultrasonic on you don't get nearly the same FAE (though when they ARE on it provides good FAE)
Alot of people use the cool mist for FAE and the ultrasonic for humidity; but you should get away fine with just a cool mist, as it provides constant airflow and moisture.
You can get a cool mist cheaper then an ultrasonic anyways :P
You..CAN run an ultrasonic on longer periods? but you need to hook up bottles or such for the vapor to collect and de-humidify basically, and you gotta empty the bottles (or connect them back to the water tank for the ultrasonic as AFOAF did
Cool mist works just fine as it is.
Can you see my bias? >_>
Get a cool mist, they're like 30-40 bucks. And they don't break as often/easy.
Also is your hygrometer/thermometer digital or analog? 95% of digitals will fail in a FC, least the humidity will; get a cigar analog hygrometer from a well...cigar shop they're like 12 bucks; to calibrate it wrap it in a wet towel for a few hours and set the humidity screw to 99%

It is a digital hygrometer, and I wasted 20 bucks on it. Are the correct hygrometers the old school completely non digital ones? I'll check out a cigar shop around here whenever I get the chance.
Thanks for clarification on the humidifier, I'm sure I saw that other model you linked at the store as well.

welcome man and i know if you stay you will succeed!!!
i have a few Q's like first is money a big deal? like is this to be on the cheep or are you willing to put out some $$
my suggestion's can be taken to the T or modified for less cash.
so here we go
17$ shelf plastic at that home debt place
light 25 $ same place
2 thermometers 10$ each? one for wet bulb and one for dry bulb " do a goggle on wet dry bulb hygrometer" most accurate passable and cheep.
check out my sig for a more costly way but i feel best.
cheep plastic wrap and duct tape to attach to shelves and seal it all off.
Velcro strips with adhesive for door slit and so on.Home D
some sort of tray for the bottom.......not for pearl light put nothing in its easier to clean.
cool mist / something for humidity
radio shack fan and cord not that cheep but if you have a small fan use it
heater in room if needed to maintain temp " again see link for automation"
a week end to set up and stabilize.
simple as that. if you think about it you probably have most of the stuff and you can sell the behemoth you spoke of earlier for a few bucks.
i did the same thing i speak of but combined 4 shelve units into 2 and put them together side by side wrapped it in plastic stuck a humidifier and fan in it hooked the humidifier to a wet bulb thermostat and set a dry bulb thermostat inside too which was hooked up to a heater in the room. i then put the light on 12/12 timer and sat back and watched. nothing came on unless it was needed and the fan ran 24/7.
good luck
PS fruit on something with holes not glass. and adding chemicals to wood will wind up in the mushroom.

Yea if you paint anything on, make sure you let it dry, fan out any vapours, make SURE it's dry, and then use plastic, sealing off everything.

i run my homemade ultrasonic humidifier for 15 minutes every 3 hours.
however it does go through a diffuser (as you suggested, although just one large 5 gallon tub and not a bunch of bottles) and into 16 tubs, so there is a little bit of a difference.

yea, to 16 tubs, his is into one. that'd the opposite of splitting. like having a coolmist try n work for 8 tubs. 4-6+ tubs, start looking into an ultrasonic.
