Let me just start by saying every time I pick a mushroom I want to eat it right then and there. (but I don't) So I have picked off some fruits that the vial broke on. 1 I picked off a few days ago and used for a spore print and has been sitting on a plate drying in room temp air since then. I took a look at it today and it is pretty sad looking lol all shriveled up and the stem that was the size of my pinkie finger is now about the size of a Qtip. Kinda looks like it is stale. Is that what I want for drying totally no moister at all? Kuz this little guy is looking pretty dry lol. Also I just picked 2 other mushrooms that the veils had broken on and they are also kinda funny looking, on one of them the stem was split open and it also looked like it had no spores in the cap. The other one was huge, well the stem was the size of a bic lighter, the cap was the size of a ping pong ball and it had spiky white stuff on the lower part of the stem, it also looked kinda funny. The 2 of them grew into each other so that might be a factor. Do they look normal?

Here is the dried out one.

Before drying

What is a good way to dry these out is sitting on a plate for a few days a good way to dry them? Is there such a thing as over drying? Been looking around and only found stuff about desiccant and what not.

Here is what I use, I put my mushrooms on the paper towel drying them out to be the texture of crackers. Think airflow over the mushies, use a fan if you have to. When I am done I'll put the dried goodies in a ziplock with a silica packet. You can get silica packets from beef jerky bags.

Yeah, they look okay...get a colander and put your booms in there. Put a fan right over the top...cracker dry if the air is warm and dry in 2 days tops.
