Does it snow often? Probably won't work. I'd only try growing outside during the spring - early summer when temps are around 70-80 degrees F. I've thrown old cakes / bulk cakes outside and have had good results.

you have 3 threads open, you deleted one but you have one more to go.

you wont be able to do much outdoors in the winter, especially in the north.

yeah i have the same question..i live in florida so its not that cold down here getting down to 30 degrees at night SOMETIMES...its been a pretty warm winter with some cold days in between...definatly no snow..obviously...but i threw a colonized jar of bird seed (nepal strain) and i wanna know how long it would take to grow or if it will even grow...my friend has had some success doing this in his yard but he hasnt tried in the winter

I'm growing some cubes in a non sterile medium inside of pots right now as we speak ... so in essence its the same thing just brought in for warmth and placed outdoors when its warm enough ... looks like a pot full of dirt so no one really notices ... i just sandwiched the spawn and sub in between 2 inches of soil from outside and some soil/compost mix mixed together ... water it heavily with rain water that collects in my watering can over the course of a week ... puts out pretty nice grows a lot of times ..

i guess what i'm saying is could someone start with say a cake and throw it outside with the alpine wood/dirt and it would be fine, eventually grow later on after winter?
