strain selection for beginners
    #11722133 - 12/26/09 04:42 PM (15 years, 25 days ago)

I am new to this and was wondering if anybody would have a recommendation for which strain a novice would start with.It seems my first attempt is still not colonizing. I inoculated 2 -3 lb myco bags of rye berries 1 with B+ the other P.E on 12/15 and still no sign of any mycilliam growth. There is no signs of any contamination either. The bags have no foul smell , they smell kind of malty .
Would overheating them say to about 92'f slow germination or kill the spores?I left my heater on to long in the first 9-11 days.

92 is too high buddy.. room temp 75-77 works just fine
as far as strain goes.. its only a matter of time till people come chiming in with the a cube is a cube business.. if you purchase spores fom a sponsor and leave temps in the mid to high 70's youll be good with whatever strain you choose

92 is too high but not the 106 needed for thermal death of mycelium/spores ... keep it to what he said , room temp ... are you sure it didnt get that high at sub level ?

also 2+ weeks is when you want to really start fretting over it ..

Dancing Tiger is just a little faster than F+ \. But I have yet to see which one fruits first. I will know in a few weeks.

Spores don't die until much higher temps than mycelium

cube is a cube is a cube is a cube is a cube...
the certain genetics that you have and claim are "fast colonizers" are not necessarily found in every single specimen of the same strain.

Not so. Some have different appearances, some have different colored sp[ores, some bruise blue some bruise green. Have you ever heard of Penis Envy..it is quite different. But with all things considered, does this topic belong in the race thread?

yes we all know PE is the exception.
also, minor cosmetic differences mean absolutely nothing to me. sacred and powerful mushrooms only have 1 trait that i'm concerned with.

B+ is the slowest colonizer out of the 14 strains I have.

yeah, and somebody could have b+ that colonizes faster than your "fast colonizing f+"
so what?
that has nothing to do with strain, that has to do with the specific genetics of that 1 strain in your possession.
bah. i'm not gonna argue this with people that's can't even understand it.
good luck with your grows.
