People achieving over 100 grams a quart is not uncommon.  That is over an ounce dried (not that you would want to dry them out).  I recently read a log where someone achieve 140 grams in a quart; that is an ounce and a half dry.  And don't forget, once you take the truffles out, you can spawn them and then fruit them.

I understand what you are saying though.  I have grown cubes before.  I yielded 4 ounces dry on the first flush, 2.5 dry on the second, and I never bothered for a third since I was leaving town for a couple weeks.  I did that with 4 quarts of spawn; I easily could have done better, but it was my first grow and in a mini-mono tub.

It is the ease and stealth of sclerotia that make them appealing to me.  Also, I have heard the trips are much smoother than cube trips.  I am also doing a cube grow (Burma), so it's not like I don't like growing them.   Fruits are the shit, just more work.  In the end, I think everyone that is preparing their next bulk grow should prepare a few more quart jars for sclerotia.  It won't take much effort.

Agreed.  I just started my ATL 7 sclerotia grow.  All you need are some organic rye berries or rye grass seed, some jars, and a pressure cooker.  I have heard that one can yield 60-80 grams fresh in two months and possibly 70-90 after three months per quart.  It require absolutely no work after inoculation.  Also, it allows you to harvest when you want, so you will essentially always have fresh fungi, instead of only having fresh fungi when you first harvest like with cubes.

I have a grow log going.  All 8 of my jars have germinated after 3 days; the one that germinated first already shows signs of growth.  I will wait 7-10 days and give them a shake.

My goal is to achieve around 70-80 grams a quart after 3 months, which will put me at 560-640 fresh grams of truffles after 3 months.  Try that with cubes.  Also, when fresh, truffles are twice as potent as cube fruits, so 15 grams fresh sclerotia is all you need to have an equivalent 3 g dry cube trip.

Honestly, if I would have known about these little buggers, I probably wouldn't have even tried growing cubes to start.  I would definitely look into them.

I read over that post a few times, no idea what the hell you are saying. But one thing did catch my attention and that was harvesting whenever I want.

Now is that a species specific trait or can I do that with any species just so long as I follow the tek?

It's not like that. Yield is determined by volumes, not times. You want more, shoot another jar. Or a dozen. But it's 6-12 weeks from shoot to snack.

I was thinking of time as more along the line of hours put in to get x amount of yield.

Oh, then they are infinitely more efficient! No fruiting required. No fanning, no misting- you don't need to look at the jars or even be in the same city.
