How jelly-like should agar in a petri dish be?
    #11716606 - 12/25/09 11:48 AM (15 years, 26 days ago)

What is the best consistency for agar when making petri dishes?  should it be soft enough to poke ur finger thru it? or thick enough till its like rubber?

I've noticed my malt agar solidifies with a wide range in the amount of water

You can tap it without leaving dents, but you can push into it if you want to.

You make it all possible. Doesn't it feel good?

You can add any kind of starch as needed to attain desired density. They sell pure potato starch at asian markets.

someone started a thread about trying to use the little jelly packets from restaurants as mini agar plates. They never got back with results tho.
