I remember on a very powerful acid trip I finally broke through the "men dont hula hoop" voice in the back of my head, picked the thing up and gave it a try.
When I first approached it I was terrified as all hell but the trip told me that was what I was meant to do; that that was the correct action for that particular moment in time.

All these people were around looking at me and I knew they were waiting to laugh their asses off when I fell on my arse.

I was surprised to find out it all came very naturally to me and I could do these crazy tricks that left other folks in awe. I had this really giant hula hoop and threw it a good 15 feet in the air, caught it, make it look like I flipped myself through it twice, while no part of me touched the ground, kept catching it and just doing insane stuff with it that I never thought I could do. I incorporated breakdancing moves, fire dancing moves and other things and while I never realized I was a hula hooper before I realized there at that point that that was what I was meant to do with my life. I did it very unconventionally with behind the back exchanges, inverted flips and really being one with the hoop. I spun it around me so fast it went all the way up to my hands and thats when Id catch it and do the horizontal/diagonal flip arounds into midair jumps.

It was one of those things where you just avoid trying something for so long and then when you finally do you find out you are great at it.

After I finished the same people I expected to laugh at me were all so shocked and taken back by my hoop prowess that they smoked me out, gave me beers and engaged me in polite conversation.

that's soooo rad!

i picked it up at a festival last summer and have been obsessed every since.  i started teaching hoop yoga classes and my friends started a business selling custom made hoops. 

im learning how to do two hoops at a time and can't wait to play more with my LED hoop when I get home and into the studio!!

guys always want to try when we have our hoops at events but are sooooo goofy about it...LOL....and then if i say that i can teach them they either think it's a come on or that i am making some kind of big joke.
