Should I re-dunk and roll cake?
    #11716048 - 12/25/09 08:44 AM (15 years, 26 days ago)

Good morning everyone!

I built a shotgun fc and right now I have 2 poo trays and a little 4oz brf cake sitting in there. At first it was just the brf cake, and it was in there about a week longer than the poo trays. The problem is, I had a hell of a time keeping the humidity up, especially with the one small cake. The addition of the poo trays kept it up at 100% for a while yesterday, but it went right back down again. It goes down to the low 90s/ high 80s.The cake has been in there for a week as of  today, and in the first 2 days it had a bunch of knots forming, then they all stopped and the cake has looked the same for about 4 or 5 days. I'm thinking this is due to the humidity not being optimal. I felt the top of the cake and the verm I rolled it in felt pretty dry so I misted it lightly, then put wax paper over it to create a microclimate around it just like I did with the poo trays. I read you're not supposed to get water directly on the cake, or if you do it will stall pinning/fruiting. I'm kinda worried that by trying to rehydrate it I messed it up...

Should I let the cake go longer and see what happens, or should I dunk and roll again and keep under wax paper? I hope I'm not simply being impatient, but it seemed weird that the cake would just stop showing any activity when it started with some, and I know I've been having humidity problems. I've been misting/fanning about 3-5 times a day, and whenever I see that humidity is getting low. I also read that it can take up to 2 weeks for a cake to start pinning.

Thanks for your help, and Merry Christmas!

As you can see i taped up some of the holes. Also, I fruited the poo trays as cakes (took them out of the tray), so that's why all you can see is wax paper and no trays.

I was thinking about moving the whole thing to my bedroom today, since there the heater vent is closed, it's a little cooler, and I have a fan going for white noise which would still provide fae. Let me know if you need better pics.
