Pans vs. Mini-mono's (GE)
    #11713432 - 12/24/09 05:49 PM (15 years, 27 days ago)

Greetings!

Long story short, I spawned some bulk to trays, and also did a mini-mono.

The tray tek's appear to recommend covering w/ foil and poking holes covered w/ micropore tape for GE.

The posts I've read on mini-mono's talk about placing them in a black garbage bag, and taping the holes until ready to fruit, then filling w/ polyfil.

What doesn't make sense to me is why one would require some GE, and the other wouldn't?

  I'm clearly missing something here...

Any input would be appreciated. By the way, the trays are outperforming the mini-mono in the early stages of spreading Myc. around the CCV bulk substrate.

  Merry Christmas!

  Sincerely,

  Sondor

When I do trays I dont put any filters for GE just foil and cover till its ready to fruit. Works like a charm

Greetings,

Thanks, that makes me feel better about my mini-mono, but I'm still curious about the difference between the two strategies?

Something tells me it's rather simple, but I'm a new hobbyist

  Sincerely,

  Sondor

Because there is a lot of air contained in the tub setup, compared to very little in the tray covered w/ foil.

Greetings,

Oo, awesome! Thanks for the input all, and now I feel much more comfortable w/ having two different style grows going on w/ conflicting spawn advice!

If anyone else has something further to offer up, I'd be happy to listen.

  Sincerely,

because its the same thing
think about it
the gas will be exchanged so long as you dont have an air tight environment
some use the micropore tape some use duct tape
they both keep co2 levels up
also dont forget your lids are not airtight
(unless they have that special ring/seal in wich case it would be airtight)

did that help at all ?

there is more than enough trapped in the tub and outlets for its release even when taped "well"

when it comes to gas exchange and mycelium everything is very shrunken down into basically a molecular world ... little is needed to attain proper levels ... this is why mycelium thrives underground ...

now mushroom fruits are a different story as they need fae , ge being a nonfactor ...

i think a lot of the newer members tend to get the 2 mixed up fae and ge

mycelium = ge

mushrooms = fae

why do you think the myc prefers high c02 levels?

do what they are saying just cover with foil
and let it colonize, when its ready fruit it

the myc needs higher C02 levels when its colonizing
than it does when its fruiting

difficult question. what answer could satisfy? cause that is the environment they grow in, in nature, i think that applies to the little buggers we try to make in our houses. that's more to why it works to make them grow. as to why they "like" it, eat 50 grams and ask a mushroom.

i don't know, but i know i don't know. i'm sure i know this.  if you can't grow it don't take it

it wants me to get involved, but i won't. if i get involved why would i come back? I'll just set here and watch. it will be better for now to stay here. but i sure would like to get involved...

Greetings,

Thanks for all the input all!

Not to belabor the point, however I have more trays than I know what to do with, but umm... G2G is a pretty cool thing /wink...

So, while a SG chamber is the easy way out, it's also rather inefficient (as I'm finding out w/ my BRF cakes). I'd like to unleash the trays in a mini-mono as a Martha isn't going to happen for a few weeks. Is it possible to just take the colonized  trays and place them in a mini-mono? Just dump the colonized substrate into a mini? No trays or Perlite?

I promise it's my last question for a while! (/signed, one nervous hope-to-be cultivator)

  Sincerely,

  Sondor

why don't u just set the tray inside the mono so you don't have to damage the myc?

yea dont hurt the myc by crushin it up now
thiers no reason the shot gun shouldnt preform if your doing everything right
if you need to make it fit in the mini just cut it like a birthday cake
take the sub out of the tray like a block
and use verm, substrate,or casing material around the sides if necessary
and i would think a mono is the easier way out due to the set and forget method they are were as shotguns require actual matinence

i concur. I found dubtubs to be the least maintenance because they maintain humidity the best, although u got to make sure they get enough fae for fruiting.
