if you have to ask this question then you arent ready to undertake the project ...

monotubs are usually the standard indoor bulk tek ...

start off with an 8 gallon and work your way up ...

Yep.  Monotubs are super easy and produce a shit-ton of mushrooms.  See, for example:  http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/8410079#8410079

Monotubs are great.

I would suggest looking into sclerotia.

You could say I'm sort of 'anti monotub.' I live WAY up in the air, so, my growing adventures are much different than most.

I would say, the best combination between beginner-friendly-ness, and massively-large-yieldy-ness, would be to either use Magash's "From Spore Prints to Fruits Using Rye," or substituting the rye trays, for fully colonized manure-based final-fruiting substrate bags, crumbled into trays and cased, if you like, like what Wronguy, or Blue Helix, or OmniCracker, etc. do.

However, the reality is, the odds are stacked against you so very badly, that you won't be able to yield very high. As you should, for the amount of bulk substrate you use, until you're REALLY familiar with whatever strains, or preferably clones, you're growing. The BEST thing to do, would be to grow a bunch of cakes, inoculated with spore solution, NOT LC, and then clone from that. Then, use those clones to grow in bulk, using either of the recommendations above.

With monotubs, there are more opportunities for failure. Also, if you do trays, and one contams, you take it out of your fruiting environment. Things aren't that simple with a monotub...

Hope that's helpful.

You know I have done this approach. But I have found that when I isolated, the turn out was the same as multi spore runs so it really wasn't worth it to me. But if you like a certain trait that you see, then cloning and isolating would be what you want.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, I'm reading up on monotub's which is actually what I had in mind since I have two 30-gallons lying around.

As for brf cakes my plan was to finish this up with this grow and then get as much spores as I can for a huge grow next. I think 5 jars will do me good.

Again thanks, happy holidays!

Sounds like you have a plan set up. That's certainly important in this hobby. Best of luck to you and happy holidays.

that's not really a large yield though. stones never amount to much imo.

Agreed.  I just started my ATL 7 sclerotia grow.  All you need are some organic rye berries or rye grass seed, some jars, and a pressure cooker.  I have heard that one can yield 60-80 grams fresh in two months and possibly 70-90 after three months per quart.  It require absolutely no work after inoculation.  Also, it allows you to harvest when you want, so you will essentially always have fresh fungi, instead of only having fresh fungi when you first harvest like with cubes.

I have a grow log going.  All 8 of my jars have germinated after 3 days; the one that germinated first already shows signs of growth.  I will wait 7-10 days and give them a shake.

My goal is to achieve around 70-80 grams a quart after 3 months, which will put me at 560-640 fresh grams of truffles after 3 months.  Try that with cubes.  Also, when fresh, truffles are twice as potent as cube fruits, so 15 grams fresh sclerotia is all you need to have an equivalent 3 g dry cube trip.

Honestly, if I would have known about these little buggers, I probably wouldn't have even tried growing cubes to start.  I would definitely look into them.

a quarter ounce dry per jar is not large yield. 3 oz of spawn and a brick of coir can get me 3/4lb dry after all the flushes are done.

really ? what do you mean they dont amount to much ?
trip, yield ,the fact thier not actual mushrooms ?ect.        witch one(s) ?
i think for the effort put in the return is pretty damn reasonable

edit: ooops, but you just let them incubate thats it ,i know were not going to sway your opinion , id assume the methods you use are more automated perhaps ?

he's asking for large yield, not easy yield.

stones are easy as all hell, but economically/ time wise, amount to little.
