my foaf never bought the idea of cubes being all the same.

they all look slightly different to him and the ride they take my foaf on are all distinctly different and consistent from 'strain' to 'strain'.

Again, he can only speak from his own experiences, and so should you. Study multiple substrains, simultaneously and see if you can tell the difference.

Someone else might not be as sensitive as you and advocates the cube is a cube mentality... the way he looks at it now is as if they were wines. there are so many analogous arguments to be made here, and i think until we can find a way to quantify the data in a meaningful way...

just because one doesnt see the differences doesnt mean theyre not different. maybe the criteria is different, maybe the scope is different.

still, I would certainly like to know who that unsrcupulous vendor RR is talking about.

my .02

lol...I have seen that site before. It's a joke. I can't believe someone would actually buy from there. It's ridiculous.

STP advertised in High Times Magazine for countless years...

and he came up in search engines on the internet...

he basically has been taking advantage of newbies that don't know any better.

Something else occurred to me about all of this.  How long have some of these so-called strains been removed from their native habitat? assuming that most vendors/traders out there aren't simply labeling strains as a marketing ploy (call me out if I'm wrong here, but I know personally that I don't do this), shouldn't some genetic distinctions develop between "strains" if they are cultivated and reproduced in isolation from one another for generations?

Sure, if you take a strain and isolate it and inbreed it, you can stabilize the genetics and create a bunch of mushrooms that look alike.
Happens to people on islands- Japan, for example. Although Japanese don't really all look alike, they look more alike than a bunch of, say, Europeans do.
But they aren't any smarter, and they aren't any stronger, and they need the same vitamins and minerals and so on.

So maybe a bunch of aliens are raising strains of humans- you've got Japanese, I've got some Norwegians, and RR is working on stabilizing some Ethiopians.
So they look different, but they are all the same. Same reqirements, same results.
Maybe the Ethiopians average a bit taller, but there's taller and shorter individuals in each batch.

You make it all possible. Doesn't it feel good?
