3 Questions regarding SOS Casings and Hydration
    #1171131 - 12/26/02 08:19 AM (21 years, 1 month ago)

Hey homies,

I was wondering if I used the Sea of Shrooms casing technqiue and using a straw to help hydrate the half cake would be over hydration?

Also, I remember hearing somewhere that it is better that you put a layer of vermiculite between the cake and the perilite than say a lid or some other separation between the cake and perilite. Has anyone done this? Does it work?

A final question: If I have a straw and an aquarium bubbler hydrating the half cake in the terrarium, will i still need perilite? If not, what should i put at the bottom of the terrarium? Vermiculite? 50/50? Thx for all your help.

Why not use some perlite?

It sounds messy from what I've read.

Well it is much cheaper and easier to use it then a bubble and whatever else you have.

Price isn't a problem. I already have the bubbler and air stone, and I got a five finger discount. The straw is just that, a drinking straw filled with water so that isn't a problem either. And both are very easy to use. Maybe I'll use all 3, I dont know. Any other advice is welcome.

perlite is no more messy than vermiculite & it kicks ass for humidification, unless you live in a particularly dry area or your teranium isnt air tight I wouldn't have thought that you would need anything else
