Average time to pining.
    #1171171 - 12/26/02 08:53 AM (22 years, 27 days ago)

What is the average time for a casing to show pins? I cased 2 weeks ago, and still have no pins. There is myceclium growth, and it seems to be colonizing the casing (I think, I've been staring at it so long I can't tell anymore), but slowly. Thanks.

it varies. what conditions is your casing being kept in? what kind of casing? how deep are the substrate and casing layers?

For me its about 8-9 days on a 3 inch sub with a 0.5 inch casing.

Both PR's and PESA seem to have taken the same ammount of time.  Although I always put the tray into the fruiting chamber the moment I see the first bit of Myc. (and I have never suffered overlay from this) . Temp = 74 humidity 80% and a fine misting (2 pumps) once every 2 days for the first 6 days.

When they come they'll always catch you out

My Ecuadorian isolate works like this:
Grain to grain transfer
Full colonisation in 5-6 days (700ml rye)
Case, 2-3 days
Patch, 1 day
Fruiting chamber, 7 days (works like a clock, on the seventh day i always see the first pins)
Pins, matures in 5-7 days
The pins of the inital flush always takes 2-3 days longer to mature than the following.

More air exchange, lower temps

I have not been able to colonize or pin in the amount of time people say they can. It took me 12 days to pin, I think as long as you are seeing growth it should be fine. I finally decided not to worry about it any more and then it pinned. Good luck.
