Combating Trich
    #11705710 - 12/23/09 12:06 PM (15 years, 28 days ago)

I have read many of methods, which is best? I have now lost 28 cakes on my second flush. Any insight from Experienced cultivators? Do I need to clean FC and perlite?

Personally I rarely get second flushes out of my casings due to trich. I just try to pull as much as possible out of my first flush. I'd say there's no real single best way to combat trich. I keep a hepa filter running 24/7. The best advice I can give is FAE. If your giving them enough FAE trich should have a hard time growing but if you live somewhere were there's a high concentration of trich spores there's not much you can do.

I've tried just about everything without any success. I can pull 6+ ozes dry out of my first flush but after that nothing. So good luck to you if you find a trick to do it let me know.

hygeine - room, technique etc
FAE
good clean spawn/cultures
healthy mycelium, if it is weakened by poor conditions problems will occur
fungicides - not really what you want to do

Flush out as much as you can before the mold completely disables the mycelium. Eventually the mold will halt any activity from the cakes/case, it will stall and become food for that green bastard.
Once it is flushed out, toss everything (obviously) including all the perlite. I like to rinse the fruiting chamber and scrub it with antibacterial soap. Fill it with hot water and pour some bleach in and let it sit for 20 Min's. Around 100:1 ratio should work fine. Rinse, Lysol, Good to Go.

If you're getting a good first flush and then get the trich, it sounds like insufficient fresh air exchange in your terrarium.  Mushrooms prefer fresh moving air, and molds prefer stale still air.
