I was curious if anyone has tried to use the grey water from the laundry machine to clean bulk substrate the same way as adding lime water to raise the pH to 9.5?
instead of letting the machine drain into the sewer system I was going to drain it into a 55 gallon barrel where my straw will soak for as long as it took to get the pH to 9.5(or paul stamets recc time)

good thinking. the only problem is all the chemicals in the laundry water...you don't want the mushrooms to absorb that stuff. then you'd be eating it. but you can use orgainic detergent and use the grey water to water your plants and grass

You'd be inoculating your substrate with bacteria that gets on your clothes. I once saw Cartman eat his underwear, but not something I would do. I could be wrong but wouldn't that just be another vector for diseased substrate? Edit: Maybe the ph makes it ok, it just sounds gross to me.

isnt that what the drastic change in pH is supposed to do? eliminate bacteria and competitors?
im growing blue oysters, arent they capable of out competing contams using the lime bath tech?

is that a good thing? ive been lurking here for some time but im not sure how or what the rating system is...
im being serious though. if i were just to use the water from washing bedsheets, towells, and shirts (to eliminate the idea of human feces)would it work?

Water your plants with grey water. Grow mushrooms with the information in these videos.

you clearly don't care what my opinion is so why are you wasting my time asking??? I am not going to recommend that anyone do this. If you want to do this then do it.... your rating changed because you aren't even being funny anymore.

thats right folks. laundry water that has been used on the hot cycle works amazing well at pastuerizing bulk substrate. plus you are killing 2 birds with one stone.
clean laundry,clean substrate.
i guess if you dont wash your food dont use this method....but youre gross if you dont wash your food.

Here's a nice paper by John Holliday of Aloha Medicinals comparing different methods of pasteurization. You'll see detergent pasteurization, lime pasteurization, and bleach pasteurization and the yields from each as compared to normal steam pasteurization. I see no problem with your plan, other than you might need to add extra detergent or bleach. Read the whole paper before deciding which route to take. RR
