Can you grow woodlovers (ovoids) like normal shrooms?

I've got some ovoid spores and I'm wondering if I can grow them like cubes or if I have to use wood?

That depends on the species.

That would describe about a million species. Coir works as a substitute for some species because it is mostly cellulose. But, IMO you are better off using sawdust. You can get as much as you need for FREE. Supplement with wheat bran, and gypsum. Chips are a plus, but not required. Get coarse sawdust. What you get from a sawmill will be perfect.

Sorry, I should have specified Psilocybe Ovoideocystidiata. It's just kind of a keyboardfull though. What would happen if I used WBS with these?

Grain will work fine for germination, first, and second generation spawn. When you go to spawning to fruiting sub that's when your going to want to use sawdust, or something similair. I highly recommend sawdust, but I can tell your going to use coir. Wood pellets could also be an option for you.

What's the cover story reason you give the sawmill why you need the sawdust when you go begging for it?

I don't give them a cover story. I told them exactly what I was using it for: gourmet mushrooms like oysters, enoki, and reishi. I've only been once, and we actually discussed magic mushrooms briefly. The owners assistant said "I've only eaten ONE kind of mushroom". The owner said "And let me guess what that was". I said "yeah, I've had those too" and everyone laughed. I could barely carry the all the sawdust I gathered up in a large contractor bag. I don't use chips. Those were harder for me to find, but the stuff I got is very coarse. A lot of it is the same consistency as that Aspen pet bedding you see at the pet store; also another good option for you. I use vermiculite to help the substrate hold and adjust moisture.
Oh yeah, do you have a sterile spore print? Sometimes woodlover prints are collected outdoors. In the instance that you have an outdoor print you would need to germinate them on agar, and immediatley transfer the myc away from contams. If your spores are sterile then you can go straight to WBS or Rye.

say you're doing landscaping and want to use it as mulch. for aesthetic reasons. I'm in the same boat as you, btw, should be getting an ovoid print soon and wondering how it might grow best. I plan on just making a ton of LC and trying a few different experiments with that, including brf cakes (who knows, it might work), sawdust cakes, outdoor growth on natural substrates, etc. Sadly there isn't much info on the shroomery about cultivation of this species. Here's a cool link: http://forums.mycotopia.net/holding-tank/39943-woodlover-08-too.html I really dont want to wait anywhere near that long to see fruits though They're purportedly 2-3 times the potency of cubes!

Not sure if it's sterile, I'll have to ask the guy. I got it over here:
