Panaeolus Cyanescens
    #11698919 - 12/22/09 01:13 PM (15 years, 29 days ago)

Will rye in qt sized jars work as spawn for Panaeolus Cyanescens? Will straight coir work for compost?

Yea qt sized jars will work as spawn. Also no coir wont work. You need to use manure with cyans.

Here is my cyan grow all my recipes are in it

It looks like everybody is using half pint jars with mnaure/verm/gypsum. Wont the spawn get stuck in qt sized jars? Could casing be skipped and just place the colonized tray in a shotgun FC?

No you bang out the colonized rye to loosen it and spawn it to manure straw gypsum mixture that was pasteurized. I would not skip out on the casing. Cyans do need it just a 1/4 inch casing. If you want to do cyan cakes then use 1/2 pint wide mouth jars

Could Panaeolus Cyanescens be inoculated on rye then after full colonization be transferred in a tray layered with compost(80% horse manure 15% verm 5% gypsum by volume?) Then fruited in a shotgun fruiting chamber without a casing layer?

how much horse manure, Straw(any kind of straw?), gypsum by volume? What should the casing consist of? I have peatmoss, hydrated lime, and oyster shells.

Casing should be 50%verm and 50%peatmoss. buffer it with hydrated lime and or oyster shell flour. I use around 10-14% oyster shell Flour.

I would use 60%Manure 20% Verm 10% Straw and 10% gypsum

Keep the sub depth under 1 1/2 inch

Also stop misting the casing after pins form and give them LOTS of fresh air

Should I test the PH level of the casing? What should the PH be?

Okay. This is good info. Can I pasteurize the casing and compost following RR pasteurization bath videos?

When the rye jar is colonized and I pasteurized my compost and mixed together in a tray do I cover up the tray until the tray is fully colonized? Then after take the foil off and  then add the casing layer? What should be the depth of the casing layer?

Yea cover until the surface is colonized then add a casing. The casing should be 1/4 inch. Cover again for 18-24 hours then fruit
