My plan for my next grow...
    #1169712 - 12/25/02 12:45 PM (21 years, 3 months ago)

Ok didnt really like brf cased plain verm result... im thinking about doing this...

I have 11 jars siting in the incubator right now, the have not showed sigsn of growth yet.. but i hope everything goes perfect and i get atleast 8 or 9 good cakes (equador strain) once the cakes are colonized i was thinking of spawning them with Coco-based Mushroom Growing Substrate #16128 from myco-tek
http://www.myco-tek.com/xcart/customer/product.php?productid=16128&cat=247&page=1

it comes prestirilized and ready to use... once i get a good substrate... im thinking of casing with 50/50 tek... now first i would like to know if that my teks substrate can compare to big brothers like dung and straw... and will i get REALLY good resulsts with using that method if everything goes good?

Yeah that would work.

Anyone know of any other suppliers of bulk substrate? $20 is a little pricy for 1 pound IMO but I bet it is good stuff but still.

last time i asked about it i didnt get good replies, since people didnt know what they were talking about... but one guy said the results are not much different from simple pf tek... now is this true or what couse on their site they say the substrate is over 6 times more nutrietient then brf or rye grains... before i waste my 20$ i want to get some feedback on that stuff.. anyone tried it?

Well that's like saying that brf/verm is the same as whole grain.

Can you get horse poo instead? Like sixcee said, $20 a pound sounds a little steep.

Look in your local yellow pages and call up stables in your area, more than likely, they'll be glad to let you come and shovel as much as you want from the stables.  Now if you do it, you're gonna have to let it dry, either outside or in a garage.  If you properly dry your shit, it will not smell bad at all, if dried right it has a subtle earthy smell.

Here's a site I stumbled across that the compost looks pretty nice. It does seem a little pricey, but the quality looks top notch. I'm not sure if you can order from them yet, but whenever you can, you may want to check it out. http://www.mycotapro.com/

I'm spawning dung with ground up BRF cakes right now. It works, but seems to go a bit slowly. This may also be because (I think) my dung was a bit to dry when I spawned it.

Spawning will work fine with brf cakes or whole grain.

my horse poo usually colonizes and has pins in a week. if its taking longer it might be too dry or maybe you got it at too high of a temp when it was being sterilized and killed off beneficial microorganisms or whatever

I use a cheese grater to grind up cakes to spawn straw/dung. Works great!
