Just did some harvesting, tomorrow will be 2 days fan drying. I purchased a Drierite desiccant metal cylinder thingy magigy from mycosupply. It didnt come with directions... duhhhn.. Do I just throw this thing in a container and seal it up? I read online they needed to be heated up to re-activate? is this after they are used, or before they are used? Please help someone !! I want cracker dry !!!

My guess would be to put it inthe oven at 250 for about an hour before using it. Even if it's brand new it's been exposed to air, and has probably absorbed some atmospheric moisture. This is just an educated guess based on using anhydrous magnesium sulfide though.

Regeneration: The Desiccant Dehumidifier may be regenerated by placing the entire unit in an oven at 220° C or 425° F for one hour. Do not place the relative humidity card in the oven, only inside of your drying chamber. The use of a relative humidity card in conjunction with the The Desiccant Dehumidifier will signal the need for regeneration.
i guess it doesnt need to be heated until it is full of moisture... cool !

Wow, those are expensive. A box of Epsom salts is like 3-5 bucks. I guess this thing is a bit cleaner, but wow, that's more than I would spend on a passive system.

I have the same thing, but mine came from drierite itself. It's a great desiccator. you don't need to regenerate it until it has absorbed all the moisture it possibly can. It should've come ready to use, with some kind of packaging to prevent it from absorbing moisture until you're ready to use it.
The way I use it is by putting it in a cooler and loading mushrooms around it, with paper towels on the bottom so they can be easily removed. Using a fan to get them mostly dry first is recommended to speed up the process. You can try something like this with any container that has a reasonably tight seal.
The nice thing about this is you don't have chunks or particulates everywhere, it's safe for foods, and can be easily reused indefinitely.
