I assume it represents entering the dream state?

I assume it represents entering the dream state?

Here's my theory: the dream world is the fourth dimension, reality is the third. We live in both, and both are real. The dream world (fourth dimension), coincidentally, is much more unstable because all systems start with squares (4 sides, or dimensions). Reality is much more stable because all systems start with triangles (3 dimensions). When we "die"(sleep forever) we go onto the fourth dimension, and dream in the fifth and third. This is why we often communicate with the dead in lucid dreams. This is also why egyptians bury their dead under a four sided pyramid (the best representation for the fourth dimension). Those are my theories, take them as you will. I acknowledge that they may all be a bunch of nonsense, just like the world of dreams (Carroll's Wonderland).

Oh ya, I think I saw it while very stoned. I am stoned now, and am going to attempt to give me interpretation of the picture.

It reminds me of a person that has inhaled his first taste of the sweet cannabis plant, and he is in awe. It is so brightly coloured, beautiful and intense. He has caught a glimpse of the magnificant heavens. As he breaks through the boundary to this land of great magick, his whole reality changes. He is confused, struggling, and bewildered. His eyes have become open and hisjourney has just begun.

Is an elaborate dream?

Is it all you want it to be?

I remember when I first started smoking weed... it seemed a lot more bizarre. Now it just feels fairly normal, but very pleasant.

Thanks man, I've been looking for that picture for 15 years.

So long that I had forgotten that I was looking.

I remember how mysterious and beautiful highs used to seem. Like you really were ascending into some other reality. The concrete walls turned to rubber.

That picture is awesome.

Remy when you talk about different dimensions..have you forgotten that hieght width and length are the first three dimensions and time is the 4th? sounds like your using some petty stoner logic here....

I've always liked this [colorized] woodut. It depicts the seeker breaking out of space-time (not called that back then), into the timeless realm of Eternal Ideas (archetypes). The spoked wheels-within-wheels are reminiscent of the Vision of Ezekiel the Prophet, who saw the Ophanim - the order of celectial beings he described as being such wheels covered with eyes (a symbolism of omniscience - seeing in every direction simultaneously). I don't know who the artist was.

Actually im using ego shattering, acid trip, anti-logic here, and how is the 4th dimension time? In an infinite world, time is a false pretense. Our understanding of dimensions obviously differ.

oh wow so the dude is laying in bed in his "real world" but is reaching through to that bright and happy dream-like place - i like that

I notice there's a wheel in the psy-land.. there are many old pictures and stories relating to giant firey wheels coming down from the heavens or coming from other realities

Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.

oh and a question to any experts out there - all those plants around him in the night-world ("reality") - are any of those psychoactive-looking?

god i love that picture, ever since i accidently came across the book The Discoverers by Daniel Boorstein, which is a wonderful wonderful book and it has that picture (with a different color scheme) as the cover. Anyone interested can order a shirt from Rowan Tree with that image. I seem to remember the dust jacket of the book saying it was an alchemical woodcut. I'm assuming that that 'other realm' is a picture of the deus ex machina alchemy view of the world. It's great.

alchemy seems to be a forgotten relic in history, killed by its children - science and technology.
the search for gold is the search for the self, the philosopher's stone is, among other meanings, the pineal gland. if you can read alchemical texts and view alchemical drawings with understanding, many things can be learned.

Peeping into other dimensions can be discomforting if you are attached to anything but nothing.

could i get any background-information on this one please???
Because, although i like the picture very much in an eye-candy-sort of way,  i could imagine this medieval guy is just drawing christian heaven as he sees it. Perhaps because of the static drawing line between sky and the 'other world' . Or because of the fact that during the medieval ages christianity was much more taken as a fact than nowadays (remember even leonardi da vinci was 100% christian in that time, a religion think he would hardly take seriously if he lived nowadays)
