people say to use BRF and VERM to make cakes. i was wondering if i could just soak Brown rice overnight then drain and coat the brown rice with Organic corn flower so the rice doesnt stick when u shakethe jar to colonize. In my perspective boiled brown rice and organic cornflower would give the mycellium everypart of nutrition it needs along with the fiji water i bought to help give mycellium extra minerals. Has anyone done this or anything similar? plz help and thanks for your time!

Use grains like Rye or Wild bird seed if your going to do whole grains and forget all about Brown rice at that point. Also use gypsum to help grains from sticking. What you said above sounds like more work then needed to just get a colonized grain jar. Dont bother using expensive water either , you tap water to supplement it use gypsum and spent coffee to give your grains a boost

Three posts. All asking about ways to modify PF tek with corn 'flower' in some way.
Please just follow the tek once or twice. Pretty please?

Sounds like you're over-complicating things. If you're feeling experimental, give it a try and report back with the results. But if you are a nub or if you just want a nice flush, stick with tried and true methods: BRF cakes, or grains spawned to bulk.

Keeps cake fluffy and airy so the cake can colonize fast and not stall. and is used for a dunk and roll and is also used for the main filter of a cake so you dont get contams. Its a very important ingredient for a cake.
If your going to use filter lids and have a PC then just do whole grains hell even pop corn if you cant find rye or wild bird seed.
You should use a pressure cooker for any whole grains even whole rice

He could do whole rice but I think he wants to fruit as cakes and not spawn them. If he wants to spawn whole rice then he should have a pressure cooker, and have filtered lids but at that damn point just use Rye or Wild Bird seed or pop corn

sure give it a shot try out the corn flour. Follow this http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/11585613/fpart/1
And instead of BRF try it with corn flour

If you're absolutely desperate for vermiculite and you simply can't find it in your area (it's probably there), try Amazon. 18qt bags go for less than $15.

If the nutrients are similar it might just work. I've grown out cakes with yucca and rye flour in place of brf and have had good results.

I don't know if this helps but.. You can buy a coffe grinder from walmart for $10 or $15 , if you don't have the money I've heard of people using blenders to make BRF.
As for the verm, I had a hard time finding mine but I found it at a flower/plant specialty store, you can also look up a hydroponic store. You can also be patiant and order everything you'll ever need from online vendors. In this day and age, nothing is out of reach
