a few drying questions

Ok so i just harvested a few that decided to drop their veils however i cant find any desicant and cannot afford a food dehydrator. I am currently drying them on a metal rack with a fan heater gently blowing on them.

Is this adequate enough or can someone suggest anything else that may be better?
Thanks in advance

Get yourself to B&Q and get some unibond stop humidity tablets...
You dont need the little pot thing, just buy the refill pack of 2 tabs.....use a knife to break it into smaller chunks and put into a sealed tub with your shrooms (mushrooms hanging above on a mesh).
Edit: you will probably only need to break off a 6th of one tablet to dry those mushrooms you have so the tabs will last you a long time!

That's ok for now, but get some desiccant when you can for longer storage.

Ive found fan drying never truly dries mushrooms out to the point where you can put them in a sealed baggy and forget about them.
I fan dry till they feel dry then put into desiccant tub to really crisp them up.

Last resort for desiccant; go to a home depot or hardware store, with painting supplies. They will have a product called Damprid. Works great.
or use the internet shroomery sponsors

Ok.... definately need to get some desiccant then....
Doesn't rice act as like a mild desiccant? Remember reading about it once when my phone went for a swim.
Haha... thanks Z

I would just spend a fiver and get proper stuff..
the unibond tabs i spoke of are calcium chloride so will do the job brilliantly.
and the tabs will last you a couple of years probably (if your not going bulk)

wicked..... might try and get out today then. So literally just get a tupperware container. Same sort of shelf that ive made at the minute and put the shrooms on it and the desiccant in the bottom? How long after that do you think?

yep, you have the right idea. depends on how much moisture your fan drying has already done...
I just generally leave my mushrooms in the tub until i have other fresh ones that need to take their place.
Id guesse at around 2 or 3 days till completely dry if youve fan dried the majority of moisture off.
