Lost casing?
    #1168382 - 12/24/02 07:49 PM (13 years, 11 months ago)

I've never lost a casing before, and I'm not quite sure what went wrong with this one. There are no contaminants, it's been in good heat, good humidity, nicely misted, but still the mycelium on the dung seems all dried out. I've the cover off of my casing fro about a week, but no pins what so ever. Any ideas on how to save it (if it's possible), what to do with it, anything? It's just sitting here, haunting me. Thanks.

Dunk in water overnight in fridge with saran wrap over it (dunking=massive pins, cold shock=massive pins).

either your casing is too dry, so dunk it, or the mycelium is not ready to pin (e.g. the conditions on the terrarium are not okee or the mycelium hasnt colonized 100% the whole substrate (deep inside where u cant see it).

if there are no contams, i am sure it will pin sometime soon. have faith

I'm haveing a similar problem with my first casing. It is cased with pure verm and smells good and it seems to be growing, but no pins.
When you say dunk it, do you fill up the shoebox with water and put it in the fridge for 12 hours? If it is not completely colonized will dunking it hurt? Thanks for letting me jump in on this one, and Merry Christmas.
