The only way to clean your shrooms

I used to say it was best to clean your mushrooms after they dried. I was lying. This is the best way; cleaning them fresh.
First off you'll need a thin razor blade, much like this one.

Now, get all substrate covered freshly picked mushrooms together.
Alright, for this step, we act like we are sharpening a pencil with a knife or better yet peeling a potato. Quick, gentle strokes. Notice the angle you hold the blade at. I know, common sense.
Go all the way around, peeling the outer layer off, it will look like so. Simply pinch all the substrate off.
This whole process takes mere seconds per mushshroom. If you want you can give them a quick rinse afterward. I just stick the cleaned ones on a dehydrator tray and run them under the faucet.
The final product (well, almost). Very clean and ready to eat/store/whatever you do with yours.

Hope this helps someone.

That's what I do. I rub it with my finger to get the big chunks off and then use a toothbrush for the remainder. I don't clean the clusters down as far as they could because they would break apart so I just leave them attached. A tiny amount of substrate doesn't bother me.

chop off the bottom. there is no need for a TEK for this. i eat the stem butts all the time. tripping face is never pretty anyways. its the chemicals that matter......

This is quicker than any other method I've done. No need for a tek? I don't know how many times I've seen this question asked. Why chop of the bottom? That usually has some of the thickest and densest growth, which is def. a factor for me at least. Also, I prefer not to eat poo and vermiculite, but I guess that's just me too.
I've cleaned them about every other way, and while they all have their benefits, this is by far the quickest and most efficient method.

They really do peel almost effortlessly, and you leave no embedded chunks of shit behind.
Of course, any sharp knife can be used, obviously a butter knife will butcher them.

I do the exact same thing OP.
Except I just use a paring knife (wusthof rules!)
I don't like eating grit. I'm a sous chef and I'd never serve mushrooms that weren't cleaned.
Why submit your friends and loved ones to that nastiness!
+1 for this technique!

Hell yeah! I use my paring knife sometimes as well.
Generally, I try to keep it in the kitchen with the others, because when I keep it in the grow area, it ends up getting tossed all over the place. Not exactly proper knife care.

when picking wild shrooms its pretty much mandatory that you clean them fresh as the entire mushroom has been exposed to all kinds of nasties and if you allow a wild shroom to dry before cleaning it the entire shroom has encrusted 'funk' all over it ...
you actually have to hit that bottom part and also shuck/skin the stipe down from the cap to the base like a snake shedding ... after a good rinse you got pure mush flesh to dry or eat ...
only problem is they bruise heavily as you are disrupting the active structures of the mushroom ... not so much a big deal really ... cultivated mushies need only the base of the stipes done as above ...

I just use a scalpel and cut off the bottom 1/16 of an inch or whatever is necessary.
