Jar Contam and Pressure cooker
    #1168102 - 12/24/02 04:09 PM (22 years, 28 days ago)

If there's a contam in one of my jars can I PC the jar, killing the mycelium and the contam, and start over again without having to fill the jar back up w/ substrate?

Wonderin,

Even with everything dead, there will still be waste products left over from the contam and mycelium. Hell, the mycelium will even still be there too, but it will be dead.

Its a very bad idea for several reasons. First, you don't know that the contamination hasn't released any toxins. You may kill the contamination, but any toxins will probably still be there. Second, if you didn't get rid of the contamination the first time sterilizing, what makes you think you will succeed the second time around. If you kill 99% of 100 entities, the mycelium only has to defeat a single bad guy. If you kill 99% of 10 million entities... well, you get the idea.

Agree with Seuss. . .

One other thing to think about, the pH/nutrient composition, of partially digested grain [your contaminated sections] will be altered. This won't revert after being sterilized again.
