Stick to the TEK the first time around. You don't want to waste your time.

I have used corn meal, which I guess is corn flour, as a substitute for BRF in the PF Tek and it worked out fine. You can see my thread here: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/11637096#11637096

I've never done PF. I skipped right to grains.
From what I've read, BRF can be steam-sterilized because is harbors fewer bacterial endospores than other substrates. Corn, OTOH has serious endospores, at least that's my understanding. If you're using a PC, corn flour may be a good, and perhaps more nutritious option. Probably cheaper, too.

Yes I should have mentioned that my jars are PC'd and not steamed. I use mostly grains as well but I like to play around with different recipes and tweaks for the PF tek. Also I have been really liking using PF cakes as spawn for my bulk trays. They probably don't pack as much nutrition as WBS or rye due to the large amount of verm, but they can crumbled and almost powdered when using as spawn and this helps the sub colonize very quickly.

Oh, I thought you were a steam-sterilizing, dilettante newbie. -jk
When I see questions about PF, I tend to think no PC. You might consider making your jars with proper moisture and waiting 12-24 hrs so the endospores can germinate. With a PC, you could make cakes out of all kinds of things. If you had a grain mill, you could probably grind up WBS. Experimentation is cool... go for it
