I just busted up one of my uncolonized rye cakes to find a healthy ball of mycelium in the middle! So intsead of just throwing it away I made a tiny terrarium out of a gladware container and set the little turd in there.
I doubt it will fruit, but do any of you think that it will? That would be funny as fuck if it did! LOL!
I bought an itty bitty food processor/dicer and tried to grind up some white rice, but it didn't do anything at all. That's why I went out and got the organic rye. Maybe it just wasn't powerful enough...
Does anyone else have experiance growing with rye? Any advice?

dromni, i feel your frustration. i have tried FIVE TIMES, yes, five times, to colonize rye and have not once met with success. i have soaked and simmered four of those five times, and never, no matter how long or how short i simmered the rye, could i get the proper moisture content. the fifth time i tried just adding 1 cup of rye and the appropriate amount of water to the jar before i pressure cooked them, and although they came out looking much better in terms of moisture content, they did not colonize. in fact, they contaminated. yet i was happy that they contaminated, because at least they did SOMETHING. seriously, once i waited four weeks for some soaked & simmered rye jars to show any signs of colonization--nada. it is beyond me what i am doing wrong, and no one can really help (i think everyone is pretty tired of me asking as well). i would try brf, but i only have quart jars and was discouraged from doing brf in quart jars as they are too difficult to shake. i have a liquid culture that's coming along nicely, however. i hope to use it on the last bit of rye i have left, as well as wbs or maybe even brf. good luck dude. i could use a lot right now!

Best 3 tips for new growers
1. www.mushroom.videos.com - watch pf tek follow exactly 2. Use a shroomery sponsor 3. Be active in the forums regularly, read read rea.
3 - is the most usefull, you learn alot just by regularly reading posts even if it doesnt apply to the methods you are using. theres lots of usefull information posted daily that can be helpfull. And when the time does come for you to step up to other methods, you have a better idea of what you are doing. I spent an hour on the forums every day for a year when i wasnt growing and learned alot. going bulk with hpoo in dub tubs was a snap.
