People always say to use brown rice flower with verm to make cakes. Can i replace the verm with just brown rice and then use corn flower instead of brown rice flower? the stuff i have is 100% natural and organic.

your replacing one thing with another without taking into consideration what its for. Verm doesn't have nutes its just there to hold moisture. as soon as you start messing around with the mixture you start messing things up. pick a tek and follow the recipe word for word. start playing around when you have the extra spores to play with.

Actually, vermiculite is nutritious for mycelium: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/9624996#9624996

i know it sucks hearing but it will pay off in the end the verm has a job to do so you cant really replace it..im sure in some weird scenario that might actually work but your chances are better with verm and brf

Also whenever you Add your moisture and PC it you will get a fairly soild mass of shit, at least with corn anything, that the mycelium would have a hard time getting through. I wonder if little bits of paper would be a good (by good I mean works at all) verm replacement?

True but not really on topic- the verm is in PF cakes primarily for water retention.
I've been experimenting with corn meal + verm, and that seems to be working. I'll know more in a couple weeks. But that's off topic too.
On topic: Get vermiculite.

I was just correcting someone's statement that vermiculite had no nutrients for mycelium, so it was on topic. ~P~

But the topic is; can you substitute corn flower (sic) for verm? There's another thread by the same guy asking about corn flower instead of BRF.
Noobs. I guess the guy likes corn.

You can't sub for the verm, but cornmeal will work just fine as a replacement for BRF. Probably not quite as nutritious, but the comparisons I have done seems to show that the difference is negligible. I have cornmeal cakes now that are colonizing just as fast as their BRF counterparts. They have fruited just fine too. Reference my post here: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/11637096#11637096
