A Gym, probably inactive

These were found at the same location as in this thread. I think we worked out they were Junonius, though the last ones i found appeared to have some subtle blue bruising which is meant to be uncommon for the Austrailian variety. Those were found in the middle of winter, after very cold nights and lots of rain.
Now i found these fruiting again from the same tree stump after no rain and about a week or so of 30C weather. Do these fruit all year long? anyway i took some pictures. These ones dont appear to be active at all however.

It is extremely unusual for G. junonius to bruise blue/green in Australia. Are you positive they were blueing?
You shouldn't pick large clusters of pins like that, especially with all the substrate attached, it's detrimental to the patch and just bad form.

I couldnt tell if they were bruising. Look in the other thread youll see what i mean. These ones definately didnt though. Are they still active?
the pins were dry and rock hard, they were not growing any more.. also its a public place and i had to grab them quickly, the clump came out with one pull, so fuck Im normally very careful when picking my shrooms but fuck, shit happens.

Fair enough, at least you don't normally tear your patches apart.
I doubt they are active. I've never heard of anyone having eaten them in Aus and none I've ever found have even had a hinting of blue or green to them. If they are, they'd be pretty damned weak.

yeah i cant bring myself to eat that much gym. I read youd need to eat about 15g dry to get much effect, and bugger that when i still have a jar full o subs from the last season

Do you still find them active? I found they degrade within weeks.

Making a really significant discovery would far outweigh the pleasures of simply getting off. If you can't do that much biomass, perhaps in the form of a tea would be a way of getting around this. Combining with a MAOI would also be a way of using less material. From the preceding I guess this is a bit late.

yeah the subs have stayed fairly potent, not as strong as when i picked got them but still quite good. I store them in a jar with desiccant satchels and in a dark place, i dont know if that helps but they seem to last quite a while. The last time i had them was dec 5 and they still did the trick .

i see some bluing on you pin clump there, the large fruits are waek, the pins are more potent. its most likely active, i would have rinsed it well and made tea out of it, condense the tea to a spoonful if necessary its not much work. tea is best with gyms, eating them sux, go back in the future there will be more, make some tea, gyms are amazing, they'll get a laugh out of ya, oh yeah to preserve the tea, freeze it...

Yeah hopefully i havent destroyed the spot by ripping it out like that. But next time i see 'em ill definitely give them a go. I still have the shrooms from the thread i linked. Probably a bit old now though..
We have a tree stump in my backyard which i left the cap sitting on top of, over some cracks in the wood. Hopefully some spores get in there and start to grow. Even if its years before it fruits, it would be good to spread em around a bit .
