PF tek w/ qt jar
#11671929 - 12/17/09 09:44 PM (15 years, 1 month ago) |
|

I was making some PF jars to test out my first LC and I had some left over mixture so I filled a qt jar. My hypnosis is that if this qt jar fully colonizes then it will be a bitch to get out of the jar. But I have over a month to figure out how I will get the colonized cake out. hahaha

Been done, Idk if you knew that..., you know why quart jars are a bad idea for pf tek?,
gravity
sucks the sub down, making it tight and compact with no loose areas to colonize like you get with grains! Don't tell me you used a dry verm barrier too ...

I did use a dry verm layer. I will probably ditch the jar before it becomes a bitch to get out. Seems like you know me well!

Just break the bottle, gently, and you will have a nice quart cake (minus one bottle).

opinion:
when the jar is half done, flip it over... and then, yeah break the glass, if done right you will probably get around 20 grams cracker dry.
1/2 pint jar = 40-60 grams 1 pint jar = 80-120 grams 2 pint (kuart) = 160-240 grams...

IF and that's a big if, the jar finishes colonizing, I would just fruit it out of the jar, scrape off the verm barrier, psilo mushie growers guide stylee.

Where do you come up with that? In general, pint jars underperform 1/2 pint jars, and quarts almost never colonize(in fact, pint jars often never fully colonize). I've seen some half way decent results from stacking two 1/2 pint cakes together, but very few pint cakes perform as well as 1/2 pints. RR

I did this too on my first grow. Had to smash the jars. Tried slicing into 1-2" rings which worked really well, better than I thought it would. Dunked and rolled as usual.

I look forward to seeing it fruit side by side with a standard cake. Except, are those pint cakes I see?

Yes. I have pint cakes dunking now with the quart. I also have regular 1/2 pint cakes in a fruiting chamber.

the RH in the green house has been around 60%. This could be at cause for poor performance. I am dunking the cake tomorrow and placing into a shotgun FC so it will get its 100% humidity.

Don't sweat it, the pinning from the bottom may be an indicator of the low humidity that you mentioned. Get that monster wet and lets see what it can do!

Dude, I would have just cut it down to .5" - 1" slices and cased Why chuck it? It's fucking huge, so I would assume it would need a little extra TLC in all ways that a regular cake would, no?
