Exotic Culture Group Buy Co-Op Thread 7

Details:
First and foremost, any culture that you may want or would be willing to put donations towards just post it and I will add it to the main list. That way, anyone else interested in the same culture can post their maximum amount and which culture they'd like to be taken note of so its not forgotten.
Unless someone really wants a culture from say, Penn State, the cultures will by default be coming from Aloha Medicinals. They have 4000+ cultures available, all you need to do is ask them. They are among the best, the few cultures that are in circulation are known as the best so, you know your safe with these guys. All cultures default price are $225 USD + $40 shipping.
I think it would be fair to all our supporters and vendors that we don't go in on cultures like Oysters and the like on the account that its their living that they do, to provide very good cultures for all of us Hobbyists. They have very good cultures for the prices that they provide and we should continue to support them since it was them that got us here to this point in the first place.
Everyone can chip in as they like at a $10 minimum to make things reasonably quick moving and $10 is a decent amount to chip in. If you wish to chip in more your more then welcome to but this doesn't necessarily give any advantage, simply the culture will arrive quicker. Keep in mind that the people who will be doing the distribution will have to cover that much shipping, throw $2 or $3 into your donation amount to cover the postage.
All orders come with 2 slants. The two people that are donating the largest amounts or decide to do the most work of distribution and their own donation of time, agar, plates and work towards it will be the end keeper of one of the slants each. Example: If 1 person is donating $50 and 1 other will be doing 50% of the work, then they each get a slant where everyone else donating will get a plate that is a direct descendant of the slant.
It doesn't matter who will do the work, it will just be decided amongst the people who are wanting the specific culture and who is a high bidder. If your getting a slant, your doing half the work (unless something is decided otherwise).
Below is a wishlist and a tally for all members who wish to get in on a culture or who want a specific culture. When there is enough money put together for the culture, it will get ordered (unless there is a discount on a larger volume then we'll decide if waiting is worth it) and one person will do ordering and receiving, then pass 1 slant off to the next person, then the work splits up amongst the members to keep thing clean.
Penn State University: They offer cultures as well for a slightly cheaper price. They have a list of cultures they offer...as well as a description of many of the genetics. There is no clause with their cultures, they are simply as is and their costs are on a laboratory cost recovery basis. Their cultures are $195 USD shipped.
They're list can be found here: http://mushroomspawn.cas.psu.edu/Collection.shtml
Cordyceps from Aloha are Off-Limits as they are patented and not for sale.
A 3rd source has been cited from Blimey Grimey. It can be searched here and they go for $77.

Wow. It's projects like this that make the shroomery such an amazing place. I don't have any specific interest in P. linteus but will be keeping a close eye on the Co-op as it evolves. Big to everyone who is making this happen.

If you have anything in mind...just post it and I'll add it to the wish list. Then as people share your desire for the culture, I'll add their names as they come.

It doesn't appear so. I know Fungi Perfecti is more anal about little things then alot of other people. I mean...I've yet to hear something fantastic about alot of their cultures anyway but, that's just my imo.

Not sure if it's the same with aloha, just saying better to be safe , then sorry.

Well I've bombed through their site a few times here...I can't find anything noting it. If there is something describing it...then we'll have to update it.

I'd be interested in going in on a zhu ling (Polyporus umbellatus) culture. It's another big medicinal that nobody here seems to have grown. It might actually taste good, too. I'd also consider chipping in on Aloha's Shiitake 75 culture.

One possible work-around ... fruit it, and develop a new strain from the spores.

Shiitake 75 & the aloha ulmarius are both in circulation here, for reference to anyone who's wondering why I didn't put it on the WishList.

If they were to haul someone into court over that, would the DNA be different enough that they couldn't win a suit? Or is it that once it goes through new spores that it's no longer the same culture?

Okay, is there a huge difference between a $20 Pleurotus ostreatus culture and a $225 Pleurotus ostreatus culture? I can understand paying that much for a rare culture, or a culture that performs very well, but I don't think everything Aloha carries is going to be the best ever strain...
Naw, ya'll want to grow the zhu ling. Because we need another thread full of people fussing about their sclerotia, or lack thereof.
