Lots of people seem to have questions about coir, so here's a few pictures of using it for casing. As always, this can be modified (and should be if it doesn't work for you)....

Start with your supplies.....

A flat-head screwdriver or a chisel work great for breaking up the brick of coir. Don't try to break it across the width--break off pieces the long way. Depending on how much you're going to make, you'll need a couple of big bowls or a bucket. And boiling water, be careful with this, steam burns suck.

Add the boiling water to the coir (BE CAREFUL)....

This is how it should look (it can have too much water, better than not enough--you just squeeze out the excess when you are ready to use it)...

Put a layer on the bottom of your pan if you want it, then add your colonized millet (or whatever you use). Cover with a thickish layer of coir (squeeze out the excess water--that is, squeeze until only a few drops are left if you squeeze it harder--it takes some practice to get the water right)....

Mist each layer with a water/peroxide mix (about 1 part peroxide (the 3% store solution) to 4 parts water works fine) before adding the next layer. Put a cover on (poke some holes in it) and put it into your incubation or fruiting chamber.

Coir should be dark, dark brown, nearly black, when the water is right. It'll dry out quickly if you don't keep it moist, and it'll be lighter brown when dry. You can add crushed oyster shell before you put it on your casing if you want.

Last step: wait.
