Its worth it if you get the dry stuff and pull out some clean extractions. Fresh cactus is just way too much. Every little step is a pain in the ass

agree...its a total pita...but the trips are always so enlightening and refreshing.
fresh is legally a better way to go...but dried is soo much easier.
its almost as if it makes you do hard work otherwise you dont deserve to enjoy it...?

Part of the ritual experience of mescaline, IMO, is growing the cactus (san pedro or peyote). Being a contributor to the life the plant that will provide me with this chemical to achieve the entheogenic experience adds to the beauty of the entire thing. For me, part of the build-up to a trip is the anticipation. The plants force us to slow down, relax, be comfortable, and enjoy the travel brochures first.
I wouldn't have it any other way.
This is one of the things that, especially us in the USA, has been lost. We have this "instant gratification" thing going on that's nothing more than something the corporations have brainwashed us into thinking. I say: it's time for more of us to de-program ourselves. The entheogens can help us with that and look at the world in a totally different way.
Where has the beauty gone? Where has the sacredness gone?
Peace.

There's no way I could solely enjoy live cacti unless I had a rather large cacti farm somewhere.

Cacti are never too much work in my opinion. I love my Cacti to death and they are so easy to care for. If anything it will be too hard to kill and eat them. =P I think it is great to spend time preparing for a trip. Plus I have seen my babies grow up since they were just weeeee big.

I just cut fresh cactus into stars, peel off the waxy skin, and chew the dark green skin. Easy, and I trip hard on it. I take 50mg of dramamine pre-trip for nausea, and when I chew the cactus I rinse it down with pure lemonade or limeade. It is really strong this way. I get chastised for not extracting but, the dark green skin of Bridgesii cactus is bitter but not nasty to eat. Unless you juice it. And mescaline itself causes nausea by binding at the 5-Ht3 serotonin receptors which are responsible for nausea (it also binds to the psychedelic 5-HT2a and the dopamine receptors.

I'd like to know the suggested answers as well. I've had a little lady named Lola on my roof for the last 5 months. She's about 5 feet tall now with 2 little brothers reaching almost 2 feet each
I've been curious as to whether or not getting powder from dried cuttings is worth it as oppose to making my usual tea from fresh. Definitely worth looking into I think... Anything that won't put me through that ingestion process again. Worse than taking shots of gasoline

cacti are so special to me... and yes it requires some effort and sacrifice on the part of those who partake but anyone who has tried many times can tell you - it's totally worth it. from growing it to harvesting. I love brewing pedro tea, especially outdoors on a wooden fire. I love eating peyote medicine and singing the songs with my relatives until the sun rises. I have some beautiful plants that will be with me for a long time and its a pleasure to have these cacti in my life. I will be taking them with me to Big Bend National Park for seven days in january to reconnect with the sacred land as people have been doing there with cacti for thousands of years.
the only thing that is too much work in my opinion is stopping yourself from satiating the urge for collecting these little guys. So i just give in lol. Im really making myself broke but i can't stop!
