Miracle contam-away!
    #1166097 - 12/24/02 01:17 AM (21 years, 1 month ago)

When I was being taught in the "way of the mushroom"....my wonderful apprentice told me to never bother trying to rid yourself of green experiments. He always said to just throw it out. Well, I'm stobborn and hard headed so this pushed me farther. Purpously,I placed a colonized terarium unattended on the floor, lid open, for about a week. Returned to speckles of green lightly overlaying the top.
Well, Has anyone ever tried mixing a small amount of Gentamycin Sulfate w/ water to scare off the green monster?? NO! Well, I did! Using the tip of a spoon handle I took out just over 1/20th of a gram (give or take a little) and diluted it into an 10 oz. squirt bottle. I didn't put a formula to it, just guessed.
BUT WITHIN A WEEK THE GREEN SPECKS HAD DISSAPEARED, AND I RECIEVED MY FIRST FLUSH 6 DAYS AFTER THE GREEN MONSTER LEFT. Just thought I would let some of you try it. There were no mutations or burns on the fruitbodies after harvest, so if you can spare the time and the terrarium, try it out.
Silly

What is this gentymiacin, and where does one get ahold of it?

What about some of the fish aquaium water treatments? Do any of those work as antibiotics?

And I noticed that there are some commercially made agricultural chems used in mushroom cultivation that ward off cobweb and such....Anyone used those?

Aquarium water wouldnt have any real applications (Unless maybe someone thought that uused water full of fish poop was usefull)

I really meant that at pet stores, there are usually whole shelves full of different chemicals used to treat aquarium water to get rid of Ich, yich, blynch, and fwitch, anmd what ever other nasty things that grow in fishtanks and make fishies sick. Most of these contain anti-fungal chemicals, so those wouldnt be any good, but some of them might conatin antibiotics that would kill other contams, but leave mycelium alone to grow and flourish.

Thats the key! Even though there was one brave soul who took the plunge and enjoyed em' like crazy. I am not that brave of a soul. I was in it for the experimentation aspect.

It's a property found in Antibacterial agar. It can be obtained at a medical supply store.

Thanks for the quick reply..I breed african cichlids {fish} and use my aquarium water for my other cultivation project and it is really a kickfuckin ass good fertilizer. The only thing that i use in my aquariums for water treatment is a aloe product an the food for my fish is all veggie, when i read about aquarium water possibly being used for mycology cultivation i got a little `cited and had to take several xanax`s, Thanks again TxTec...
