Location: in some an old tree that had fallen down and had became chipped up. In Santa Cruz, CA.
Gills: brown
caps: about 1 inch across
spore print: brown/ light black... hard to tell

 thanks for any help!

Is that blue ink from that pen or is it bruising?

If the spore print is light, you might try leaving it on there for longer. 4 hours is what I hear is best. Does it bruise blue/purple when you pinch it?

Psathyrella, maybe P. candolleana.
Psilocybe cyanescens is fruiting all over the bay area right now though.
You need to look at more wood chips more often.
How was the freeskool mushroom class?

ah for sure. thank you! yea, they actually do not bruise any color. when i looked up Psathyrella mine looked pretty similar.
the mushroom class was awesome. I found a bunch of Lactarius deliciosus and tried cooking them, but i dont think i prepared them right. also found a pretty good sized amanita muscaria. im really new to mushroom foraging, so i definitely learned a lot.
thanks for the help

Nope, halfway across the continent and in a different country haha. I was just trying to help him with the ID earlier. Nice amanita, those ones with the spots all spread out look weird.

They might be Armillaria.
