Thanks man! Ya they are pretty easy and they colonize fast. So far I think I like the shiitake the best for eating. Fuckers take forever tho.

Shiitake or Enoki? Either way its pretty much the same: Grain spawn made as usual inoculated with culture or spore syringe. Spawn to filter patch bags filled with supplemented sawdust.
My mix was all Traeger pellets (oak and alder) with wheat bran, gypsum, and some fine oyster shell flour/bits I found. And a little vermiculite.
The shiitakes tho, some I didnt even put the bran in because the grain spawn is essentially your supplement. Some of those I think I over-supplemented and thats why I have some mutants..
The enkoi I put in the fridge for a week after 100% colonization to cold shock and then into the GH. Any halfway decent fruiting conditions and enoki will provide it seems.

Thanks for the tip! I can get these locally.
It's hell in my area to get pellets that aren't from conifers.
Good growing,
Jef

Did these continue to grow after picking what you did or did they abort? I am also curious how much the mushrooms on the plate weighed? I have a couple of blocks of these at full colonization and will hit fruiting conditions in a week. I hope I can get similar results. Thanks for the posts.

At this market down the street from me enoki were going for 2 or 3$ for about 2 fists size. I'd say that block could be almost 20 bucks of enoki. No? Would you barter it? Bartering's amazing. I'm gonna do that with some mushroom products from home. Have you thought of pickling them?

Most of them did continue to grow. There were aborts underneath the canopy, but it was pretty evenly distributed, no big patches of aborted clusters.

And the bottom did not disappoint:

They all came off fairly easily, it was a lot to pick tho.

After I got everything worth keeping, I scraped the aborts and bullshit off really gently with a knife, just scraping not really cutting. Shes dunking in the fridge now for 24 hours.

Total harvest for this one block, first flush was 0.85 pounds.

I just had a mushroom feast! Sauteed up the enoki with the shiitake from earlier, some garlic and olive oil. Spread that on a pita with some spinach and feta hummus. Dipped in sriracha and the oil from cooking the mushrooms mixed with balsmic... Hot damn!

fungus_tao: My humidity and temps fluctuate quite a bit. It helps the shiitake that share the greenhouse. For the most part temps are between 50 and 70, mostly on the colder end of that scale. Humidity is betweem 80-95, it mostly stays around 85%
Did you give this a cold shock and if so what were the aprox. temp/duration?
