Taz/Cambo/PF Classic growlog - UPDATED 1/14
    #11646522 - 12/14/09 12:06 AM (14 years, 4 months ago)

Okay Shroomery - Here it is, my 3rd BRF cake grow.
MS inoculated BRF/Verm+gypsum half pint jars.
Incubated "blanket-style" in a dresser drawer that stays a constant 70-72 degrees.

Nov. 19th
-Nocced up 5 jars of Tasmanian and 3 Cambo using my "still-air" box.
Nov. 21st
-Nocced up the other 3 jars that wouldnt fit into PC with a PF Classic syringe. (very weak syringe)
Nov. 22nd
-I can see some myc starting to sprout! 1 cambo, and all the Taz showing growth
Nov. 23rd
-All jars show myc growth. The Taz germinated faster but the cambo is growing faster. Growth has quadrupled in the last 48 hours.

Dec 2nd
-Re-nocc'd the PF Classic jars with the rest of the syringe. Growth was very spotty, due to weak syringe.
The Cambos are awesome colonizers, and quickly passed up the Taz.

Dec 9th
-All Taz and Cambo jars are between 95-100% colonized.
PF Classic has bounced back very nicely. The rest of the syringe I think really helped. Very Rhizomorphic myc. Much more-so than the Taz or Cambo.

The consolidating cakes.

The jars have about 4/5 more days left in consolidation before their dunk and roll

Upcoming projects ....already started some Bay Islands Roatan-Honduras cakes.
Hope to add this strain to the Strain/Race/Variety thread

Well there it is, my sneek peek at whats to come:cheers:
I will keep you updated... Taz/Cambo prints coming soon! :shroomer:
God Bless ya Shroomery :peace: :plur:

Very well documented. Nice work, I'm super curious about how those Tazzy's turn out. I've found that they germinate quickly as well!

Thanks! :rastamon:
you also noticed the Tasmanians germinated quickly?
It was very interesting to see the differences between the myc in the 3 strains.
cant wait to get them into the FC! :awedance:

Absolutely, I'm fairly new to this but of the 7 strains I've tried, Tasmania has been the quickest to germinate from spore. Stropharia and Orissa India have been the slowest, with Ban Pha Ka, Huautla, and PESA falling in between. The other one I tried, Australia, was just marginally slower than Tasmania. In a way that doesn't surprise me, as you would think that Aussi and Tazzy would be closely related.

I can't wait to start doing agar on petri dishes to really get a good look at the mycelium.

Best of luck fruiting!

My computer monitor took a shit about 10 days ago so I havnt clocked in much shroomery time. But a new flat screen monitor was worth the wait.
Okay so first of all, I wanted to show the Fruiting-Chamber I am using. when I grew cubes about 3 years ago I used a Poor-Mans-Pod style FC.
A PmP uses an aquarium air pump to deliver fresh air into the FC.
So this time around...I was going to try a Shotgun FC because my mom threw out my grow stuff I left there.
so anyways I got my rubbermade, and drilled my holes on all 6 sides 2" apart RR style.
I wetted my perlite, and leveled it into FC, and placed cakes onto foil...
and, well...
that shit was wack.
hardly holds rh,and I cant imagine it is getting enough fresh oxygen...
so I taped up half my holes, and I went and got a NIIIIICE air pump for a 20 Gallon Aquarium.
it LOADS the FC with fresh air, and the holes in the FC allow for any CO2 to escape
I think its the best of both FC worlds!

I read that fresh air is the Number One pinning trigger.
followed by-the evaporation of water from the surface of the substrate.
so-Im thinking that by pumping as much fresh air into the FC as I can,
I am creating the most oxygen rich environment for the pins to form, and fruits to grow.
I try and mist about 4 times a day, and follow it with plenty of gentle fanning. ~30 seconds
The only problem with my FC is that the temps are staying about 66-69, rarely getting above 70  and its definetly slowing things down. After 10 days in the FC-
None of the 3 Cambo cakes show any visible pins  but I am being patient with them.
4 out of 5 "Taz" have pins, 2 are pretty loaded.
I counted 32 pins on one of the cakes.:mushroomgrow::mushroomgrow::mushroomgrow::mushroomgrow::mushroomgrow:

One of my PF Classic cakes started the form pins in the jar I think.
*(if you look, you can see the Rhizo from the first post)*

so I birthed that cake too, I dont think it is contammed...
I cut out some blue/greenish spots on the cake, and now I think its okay.
and my Bay Islands "Roatan-Honduras" cakes are doing nicely.
they started out very slowly, but once the myc got established they have been moving along quickly.

and here is a pic of a KS SuperStrain Karo LC attempt. there is nice myc growth, but there is also still a bunch of spores in the bottom of the jar.
*(I KNOW I added too many spores-I didnt use a GE port so the vaccuum inside sucked out half my syringe when I nocced it)*
but whats with the spores?
are they ever going to germinate?
I have a cambo LC like that two, and two more LC's brewing that may turn out to be that way also...
am I doing something wrong?

Thanks Shroomery, I missed you guys!!!
late Merry christmas and a HAPPY NEW YEAR! :vaped::plur:

I've got a couple shotguns at about 64f - I feel your pain.  And that shotgun thing is tough to keep the rh up in.  I think that if the rh in the home was a bit higher it would be easier to keep up.  Thinking they're a bit environmentally restrictive.  Put a couple in a rubbermaid above the fridge and they're taking right off.  Like everyone's been trying to pound into my head, they like those warmer temps.

Looking better than mine though.

Good luck!

put a heating pad under the chamber set to low and it helps heat up the air and give more humidity also...

Thank you for the suggestion,
I was thinking of getting a small heating pad to warm things up.
I had one before but my mom threw it out with all my old grow stuff I left there.
I found a nice one for small terrariums for lizards or tarantulas, it worked great but I couldnt find the same one last time I looked.
I suppose any heating pad will work? just be sure to not over do it?
also the air pump I have going into my FC is drying out the perlite around it, can I move the cakes and douse the perlite with my spray bottle?
I should get some bubble stones for the ends.
