Ipomoea tricolor --blue stars??!--
    #11631771 - 12/11/09 05:57 PM (14 years, 3 months ago)

anyone familiar with the "Blue stars" morning glory seeds?

I accidentally got them instead of heavenly blues :mad2:

anyway, i was wondering if they are safe to do thangs with?

Ipomoea tricolor are mostly called 'tlitliltzin' the the Nahuatl word for "black"

which i assume is because, like the heavenly blues, the seeds appear black.

but these "blue stars" are white, or more beige, but anyway.

I can't find any information about them, and am wondering if they are safe. I know the alkoloids vary slightly from different species, from flying saucers to heavenly blues etc.

but does anyone know anything about the blue stars???

i got them from bouncing bear, and, i got heavenly blues from them before, but now they don't sell them anymore!

anyway, has anyone had any experience with these seeds?

yeah, they are untreated, that is the reason i go to BBB, but

i was expecting heavenly blues

and the seeds are black, but i get these beige seeds that look the same, but beige (or bleached)

and they are called "Blue star morning glory"

and then i go back to BBB, and i can't find any heavenly blues for the life of me.

feels bad man

but at least i got some san pedros, so that feels good man

yeah, i was just wondering because

i know heavenly blues are supposedly (the more potent of the seeds) [but that is comparing heavenly blues to flying saucers)

i never tried flying saucers so i duno

i've only worked with heavenly blues,

but these blue stars are beige, which i guess is normal,

so i guess hopefully they are just as safe

SWIM really likes to do at least 20grams CWE with heavenly blues, so

if SWIM dies from doing 20grams of blue stars,

it isn't in vain, it's for science at the very least...

but SWIM doesn't really wanna die yet, he wants to trip

has anyone had ANY experience with these blue stars?

grrr it makes me :mad2: cuz i was expecting black seeds, and i get the exact opposite, and it's like

:mad2:

maybe its because swim has feels bad man with santa hat on, for a feels bad man christmas

feels duno man.

does anyone know if

blue stars are Ipomoea tricolor?

because i know heavenly blues are but

i checked wikipedia for Ipomoea tricolor

and it came up with

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ipomoea_tricolor

"Horticulture
Numerous cultivars of I. tricolor with different flower colours have been selected for use as ornamental plants; widely-grown examples include 'Blue Star', 'Flying Saucers', 'Heavenly Blue', 'Heavenly Blue Improved', 'Pearly Gates', 'Rainbow Flash', 'Summer Skies' and 'Wedding Bells'.
Some people consider this plant to be an invasive weed due to its fast rate of growth and its prodigious seed production."

but isn't it the pearly gates or flying saucers that are not Ipomoea tricolor, but Ipomoea violacea instead?

what does this mean about the blue stars?

if they are tricolors, then SWIM will do it, but if they are not, then it's quite questionable...

does anyone know what these blue stars are?

I cant find ANYYYY information about em

I've done them all,and they are really potent.I imagine it would be hard to overdose on morning glory seeds unless you ate a few pounds worth.

the main problem that would happen if you ate too much is the fact that LSA is a potent vasoconstrictor and could possibly cause very bad side effects

before doing MBWR or MG I find it beneficial to grate some ginger into a cup of tea and drink that. Ginger has awesome anti nausea properties.

I know this sounds weird but i have taken the same seed packet and planted seeds in different parts of the yard and get different results.

Some end up purple and white ..3 inch diameter flower. And some will turn out blue 5inch diameter flower. They also have different seed pods which is weird.

Kinda ironic that you say that, only because your post would have bumped it to the top.

But, I really don't care

Really, people just need to stop worrying about whats on page one, and read on to the next page. :-\

That sounds weird, maybe some seeds got mixed up in the process in packaging. I don't know much about growing them :shrug2:

Ugh.  I have such mixed feelings about LSA.  Like... every time I try, I get nauseous and then frozen in hell for an hour or two, then I either vomit or it subsides, and everything goes all visual until I go into hyper-consciousness mode.

Anyway, 'Blue Star' is just a cultivar of I. tricolor.  Which means its the same species, and in all likelihood, contains a very similar if not identical set of alkaloids to I. tricolor 'Clark's Heavenly Blue.'  Keep in mind, Morning Glories have been bred only for their flowers and vigor, so no one (mainstream at least) has really tampered with the alkaloid content.  The suggestion that I. tricolor 'Flying Saucers' has higher potency is, imo, probably bullshit perpetuated by the fact that the cultivar happens to have a cool name, suggestive of activity.  I bet if you looked at it, all the commercial cultivars would have a very similar alkaloid set and concentration.

I'd actually really like to see someone examine (scientifically of course) alkaloid contents in all of Ipomoea.  For instance, I'd like to know just how active I. alba is.
