What's this high wattage talk? It would be INCREDIBLY hard to believe that your local stores don't carry "daylight" bulbs. In fact I've had a harder time finding anything else. If it says "daylight" on it that means it's 6500k. And holy jesus tits christ (I don't capitalize peoples names that never existed unless deemed fictional) I just looked at that bulb your thinking about getting and all i gotta say is how's your ass feeling? Any brusing or tearing? Does it hurt when you sit?

so i didnt take out the polyfil but i replaced it with very very loose wads of it. i just woke up and the top layer is already really dry looking... mushies look the same though . my fan is on high but pointed at the ceiling, creating a gentle breeze towards the tubs.
should i change my lighting cycle btw, to say, 16 on/8 off, to compensate for the incorrect bulb?

Lose the fan bud.

Sure isn't. Taking the polyfil out of the bottom holes along the long sides will be plenty of FAE. Of course, mist when it looks like it is drying out, but don't overdo it. The evaporation process helps to initiate pinning, so moisture fluctuations are normal.

Light is probably not the problem at all. My guess is you have a pool of h20 chilling underneath your substrate preventing it from being fully colonized and dramatically slowing pinning/fruiting. If that is the case, then its going to be very hard to get rid of through evaporation alone. In that situation I often attempt to actually turn the whole bin on its side and dump the water out, but I use much smaller bins than you and a much much higher spawnrate. Maybe try to drill a couple of tiny holes in the very bottom to let the h2o drain out? Just tip your bin on its side a little bit and see if a pool of water comes from underneath the substrate.

If I were to take over this project,
I would keep loose polyfil in all the holes you have, keep the fan running. Mist heavily 2-3 times a day and keeping the lid off for 15 minutes and fan to let the water evaporate. I'd also fan the tub out an extra 2-3 times around the misting cycles. Keep a daylight cfl running directly above your tub. 2 cents

Polyfil put in holes well after pin formation. This sub was also partially uncolonized and overly wet when fruiting conditions were introduced.

So Dale - you stuff the poly in the holes AFTER pin formation? That's brilliant! That burst of FAE is what gives you that uniform pinset?

12/12. I do 14/10.

Exactly. Evaporation of water is a big factor in pin formation. What better way to do that than leave the bottom holes open. Just make sure you mist to make up for water loss that will inevitably occur.

shit FAE really is important. so i opened the tub to look inside since i put that really loose polyfil in. ALLREADY, lots of hyphal knots are forming into little mushies.
im debating on how to continue fanning. a poster above said something about leaving the lid off for 15 min. how the hell isnt a contam gona land in there during that huge time frame?

Your tub has been aching to fruit, it just needs the right conditions to do so. What's your substrate?
You can leave the lid off OR just remove the polyfil from the bottom holes along the long sides. Taking the lid off will kill humidity for a short time, while leaving the holes open will give around 85% humidity while providing FAE, which is perfect.

I would recommend rigging a humidifier to your tub so you cab leave the polyfill in-clean constant air- and allow for rapid air exchange. Also if you put an ultrasonic humidifier in the cool mist you won't ever need to mist, and I live in Colorado, I could never ever get away with removing polyfill.

my sub is a mixture of coir, coffee and verm.
im still scared to take the poly out. right now i have ALL the holes filled with loose polyfil while a fan, on low, is pointed at the wall behind the tubs, so the air kicks off the wall and disperses around the tub (i hope that makes sense).

i guess my main concern about taking the poly out is contams. my sub is clearly not fully colonized so its susceptible to contams.

Ok, but you have been opening the lid all this time and fanning too, right? It hasn't contaminated yet.

once your tub is fully colonized it's very contam resistant the myc owns the substrate making it difficult for any other contam spores to take hold
