Lancing pods VS pod tea.
    #11634383 - 12/12/09 02:41 AM (14 years, 2 months ago)

Alright, so... I'm growing some poppies for the first time at the moment.  As this is my first attempt, the outcome wasn't quite as good as i had hoped. The poppies have flowered and i am just waiting for the pods to fatten up before harvesting the whole pods for tea.

Now, my housemate (a member of this site) keeps telling me that i'm wasting the goods by not lancing the pods before drying out the pods. He thinks that all the goods are in the leaves and roots, and if you don't lance, they will stay in there.

Am i right in saying that the pod tea will be stronger if the pods are not lanced? Is he right in saying you will get twice as much if you lance, then save pods for tea??

To me this seems like a kinda stupid question, the answer only seems logical to me

I'd say you're correct.

I don't know about twice as much, but you would be making the most of your grow.

The whole plant does contain alkaloids but I think the majority is in the pods, then stems and leaves. By not lancing their would be more alkaloids in the plant one would think.

You may as well lance some just for the sake of getting a smokeable product
You can easily make an edible product from the pods but its very difficult to make a smokeable one, by lancing you have both and you could even eat the dried latex if you really wanted to, you should still end up with the same amount of active chemicals, just in two different forms.

I'd personally prefer smoking the latex, but it's all about opinion i suppose.

kinda is your choice since you were the one who decided to nurture the beauties :tee:

yeah your friend is full of shit, you wont double products. Tea is more of the full opium spectrum. pure latex is upwards of 30% morphine total weight(latex), so in fact, latex is a purer morphie buzz than the tea. a buddy prefers the latex over tea. a tea a friend made with scored pods was actually mostly thebane buzz, because a lot of the morph leaked out from the scores and was licked seperatly. My bud prefers to have the tea mostly thebane and that way, he gets to be a bit speedy, and can use the latex for when he actually needs a sedative morphine type buz.

Do what you want, but try different things out for yourself, and you'll soon know how to tell the diff in the buzzes.

always always, respect the pod man.

smoking opium, however much you lose from lancing, is something i am so glad i gotta try.

the feeling of pod tea coming on in a rush as soon as you inhale that sweet smoke is priceless.

Yeah, i guess that is the unknown question. Weather the pods will produce more alkaloids once lanced. This i guess we will never know.

no, it'd be rather simple to find out, moreso if you go strictly by morphine content

could you not just do it each way, then isolate the morphine from the opium/pods acquired and just weigh it out?

of course it'd be easy for a scientist with lab ware that is.
